Get Stardew Valley or wait for a PC version of Story of Seasons.
This is a complete trainwreck of a game and a simple cash-in based on a crap mobile game.
You can wait for a bigger sale though. If you're not sure about the game, 30 dollars is a bit of a "big" investment when it comes to games you're uncertain about.
Well I already played through seasons and stardew so I guess I'll look up Rune Factory later, thanks.
Sensei_Pong, why did you decide that the game is of low quality?
Plenty of stuff to work through for the rebuilding stuff.. Playing with only a mouse is nice, and with a controler is basicly FoMT so you get what you'd expct there if you want normal controls.
The "Farming Friend" is a nice addation so you can actually tell if a crop is dieing or not.. Farm space wise, it maybe gives a bit to much but maybe later game tools will make it seem less so. (The farm has three areas, two to expand into, one cheap and one pretty expensive + at lest two other fields.. Maybe there is a third on the beach but I didn't get to it).. Time scale feels good I don't feel like its to fast or to slow really.. It also returned to the FoMT mine system with some changes so its less savescummy And tool upgrades seem to be similar (More pricy then FoMT but not to much higher really).
The mutation system and request system are also in, which are nice features imo... Idk if Animals have abilities in this one though..
The intro Tutorial is over pretty quickly (and actually very abusable like HM one's intro - idk if its intentional or not but a fun thing regardless)
For the graphics I think the screenshots/video make it look worse then it actually is - idk why but I think it looks a lot better in game then it did intially in the screenshots/video (it's a lot less bright(maybe thats summers thing? idk), the models don't seem as out of place etc). Maybe its just me though.. Idk what people want from the graphics really though.. If you actually put some side-by-side images from older HM its not that out of place really. But it is a very subjective thing so just my opinion - I can see how someone might honestly dislike it (as I really did hate them at first impression when they first showed the game but I'm already over it (and was probably 10mins in)). I don't think the graphics should be a make-or-brake issue here regardless.
Music again is subjective but I don't think its bad. Idk what to say for the characters really.. They are the same set Natsume has used for each of its games and pretty much has the basic tropes you'd expect.
I'd also suggest to just ignore all the people who can't get over Natsume/Marvolus split for some unknown reason. And can't accept that more then one company can make a HM game and it still be good.
Also if you haven't touched it yet somehow.. Then do pick up Stardew Valley as well.. As it's really good. (Like wise if you own a 3ds Story of Seasons is good to).
As a fan of Hm style games, not careing who makes it.. Then I do think this -so far- is pretty much what I wanted from the game. Certainly better then expected for me... But till I can play through to the late game.. I can't say if I think it holds up long term.
If you do decide to try it, then just spam Through the intro and don't read to much.. Get the first house rebuilt for Sam quickly(you need to double click the door to his house(or any) to get the rebuild menu if you use a mouse and its a bit annoying to figure out with no clear prompt thats what your suppose to do here).. Then you should have around an hour to an hour an half to play and not worry about going over the 2 hour refund window to see if you like the way it plays in general. If you keep it, then jsut re-start and read through it and if you don't or don't feel it'll be worth the price for you, then refund and maybe buy it in a sale... An you lose nothing - just pay attention and don't go over the 2 hours. Probably don't go over like an hour and 40mins to be safe.
It looks like an upgraded version of the official mobile game (HM: Seeds of Memories) from a couple years ago, which was mediocre. Currently watching a stream and it may as well just be a re-skin. Harvest Moon Lost Valley was a barren wasteland and I have a personal no-refund/trade-in policy I follow with my console library, primarily with handhelds... it's a problem I have as a gamer who's always loved handheld collecting.
Skytree wasn't terrible, but that's like saying modern Sonic games have a redeeming quality as well. It's not good, but not THAT bad. And unfortunately, Light of Hope doesn't look better than Skytree. So I can't justify the purchase... It's saddening...
@Teirdalin -- My Time in Portia looks promising as well. It's got a demo available. I need to check it out.
My personal purchasing history with Natsume started roughly 20 years ago with Lufia and Harvest Moon on the SNES. Moving to the GBA, N64, PSP, and DS series. Which of course includes Rune Factory, River King, and Innocent Life (despite it's glaring faults).
The bar over the years has dropped unfortunately with the HM name. And despite the River City Series doing decent currently, my consumer confidence is waning.
It pains me everytime an HM game doesn't do well... Since Natsume has usually been a pretty respectable dev and publisher imo.
Either way, I'll probably get the Switch version... be burned, then proceed to wishing I was playing SoS, Stardew, or Rune Factory (1, 2, 3, or 4) on 3DS instead. Seeing that these sorts of games work exceedingly well as handheld titles.

etc., etc., etc... Sensei_Pong, don't tell me that the listed games are divinely beautiful...
O_o This is not an argument that this game is bad, like everything else you wrote...
Your disappointment is clear to me, but ... Take any great game and play it very long, and then a little more. You will get bored and the game will lose its charm. Maybe the problem is this?
It seems you have trouble accepting peoples opinions that they don't like it?
Are you telling OP he should buy the game based on the name/IP? Man, no wonder so many games suck these days!
Not everyone has to white knight something just because it uses a particular franchise name, mkay?
You can just take a quick look at the reviews for this one, all positive reviews come from people who have played the game for hours, and they all have more thumb downs than a grumpy centipede. Meanwhile the negative reviews are the exact oposite.
I'm not saying everyone needs to love their new games, but are you sure you wouldn't grow a little defensive if something you enjoy is treated like that?
