In all honesty, I'm kind of at odds with the balancing of this game's character roster. All of the different birds look cool and play differently, but most of them seem to be significantly outclassed by one or two others. For example, I love the design of "Duck," but his starting weapon and passive ability are horrible. He's a melee oriented character, which is a questionable playstyle in its own, but his negative passive of a -40% range further restricts him from stepping out of this archetype. If he had some sort of increased melee damage to start with, then his character would not only maintain his unique status, but possess greater utility amongst the roster too. Perhaps I need to devote some more time to playing the other characters, but this seems to be a trend for most of them. At this point, playing anything besides Blue Bird or Chicken just seems to put the player at a disadvantage from the beginning, and that experience is suppose to be tied to the Egg.
I found that Penguin seems to be quite good for generating more artefacts because of the character cloning ability. I have yet to try blue bird actually but shall do in my next runs. As for duck, maybe some one should make a good duck mod, or "Punished Mallard" even.
Platypus is not that bad too because it can generate more keys and coins from the start resulting in some advantages if you get some good key rooms
As for the rest, I like Penguin but I have to say Duck and Seagull are not really my favourite characters
Chicken is one of the worst as you have to move around more and more the further in you go.
Tbh they need to balance some of the other abilities to match/equal with blue bird c:
