I legit think yellow door's harder, I hate having to move around and getting paranoid over when the land shark's gonna bite. In the red door at least, the only one that forces you to move are doing so from long range, so I can snipe from afar, and attack scarlet/the rock creeps at my own convenience. Different play style, methinks.
While I agree that sniping is a good solution for the red path, I think it's also the only one. As soon as you have to get close it becomes a disaster.
Also, I don't know if I buy that the red route is even subjectively easier than the gold one. Every obstacle in the red path is functionally a harder version of the gold path:
I've never had any trouble with him.
The game just wants you to run circles around him, really.
I think, most of the problem for me, is the boss of the yellow door.
I just friggin hate how he's only vulnerable when he's lunging at you. The red boss is totes easier. Also, yeah, I agree with your points above. I usually snipe from afar, and though I can go close, I prefer to keep a distance :D
