If only more pc gamers would stop accepting the leftovers from games made for other platforms...
This^ it's a leftover so someone can make more cash through a PC version of a year-old iOS "game"
And yes, I got it for free on iOS, that's why I am saying that charging anything for it on PC is pure stealing from the devs.
EDIT: And I want to stress again how short, cliche and unimaginative the story is. You have seen this sort of "story" in some Sci-Fi themed book or movie for sure.
BTW there are 6 sequels, so some people seem to like it
I got it for free on iOS, I've no clue they actually charged for it on release, shame on them.
And 2$ is ridiculous for the scale of this "game".
What you call as sequels are a complete rip-off. I just had a look at them, and it seems they divided the game into mini-sequels so you have to pay 2$ for each - another shady practice to make extra dollars.
It's stuff like "Lifeline: SIlent Night" "Lifeline: Whiteout" etc... which is mini-stories broken down instead of being one. Essentially each doesn't last more than 20 minutes to complete. You just choose once in a while between two possible options, one is death, one is to move on. No actual freedom. You just read a story thats essentially forced.
I don't know how to compare this so I'll make this weird analogy: It is as if you released Skyrim, and then made each city and settlement into a mini-DLC instead of the map being one.
Each sequel has its own story. Some are more stand alone, some continue the Taylor arc...
Interactive Fiction is not for everybody, doesn't mean it is bad or shady, just play sth else
This is just a warning to people who don't know and might consider buying this.
You may like iOS-based "story" games where you choose between 2 options in which 1 will lead to game over (so essentially you only get 1 option), others will not - and especially from a "PC" game.
The conclusion is, that this is not a PC game in the end, and does not, by any chance, could cost anything other than Free - there's nothing to it that can justify that. It's just short sentences put together followed by 2 options (in which 1 will lead to game over). Essentially, you don't even play the story - this is NOT interactive fiction. Might as well read a book. Maybe it's ok for iOS, but not for PC, and especially if they charge for it more than 1$.
Again, this is just a warning to people. Leaving how bad and cliche the story is aside, I played the game and know that this is NOT PC-material. It hardly is iOS. And as a gamer for 15 years, to me, the marketing practices of this are borderline shady.
Game cost 3 euros, I won't starve cause of this purchase.
Re-read what was said.
my response is a direct response to this
And your saltiness is excessive. This game isn't broken nor inherently bad. Cash grab? Maybe. Or maybe it's also a chance for the devs to try to dip their toes into new ventures and to try to reach new audiences. Did they go about it the right way? It's too early to tell, but so far I think the devs have done everything right upon rollout.
I'll be the first to admit that this isn't GOTY material. I'll also be the first to defend it against people, such as yourself, saying that this isn't a "real" PC-game. Bear in mind that the original PC-exclusive titles were almost entirely text-based, so it's not even accurate to say it's not a real PC-game (just because it's a port). Being short isn't a disqualifier, especially at three-dollars, and in fact allows for better pacing of the already stretched story.
So I would reccommend a more nuanced view of the Lifeline series on PC: it's likely not going to impress the masses, but it's certainly one of the better, quality-tested iOS ports on Steam.
I'm all against mobile ports game for PC.
I'll pass this. I thought IT would be bit... improved. It isn't.
Yeah i don't get all the people that claim to have bought it on IOS but are disgusted its on Steam, sounds like they want to play but are too cheap to spend the money.
I saw this somewhere that said coming soon, the Avatar pic and name were enough to make me click the picture and go to the direct Store page, I liked what i saw in the description and pictures so I added it to wishlist, when it was released I received an email saying so.
My point is like AskingForTrouble said they have no reached a new audience who may not of played the game otherwise. Games do not suddenly get completely remade for no apparent reason just cause they are released on another platform within the same generation.
What do you guys expect them to do, change the story? The whole identity of the game itself? just so its different?
Didn't like the 1ST one? But you claim to have got it for free so where's the loss? I don't get this massive petty anger to "warn people" [it's not a warning, it's just an angry complaint accusing the publishers of stealing from people] over something that costs less than a jug of milk?
Please revise what was said throughout the thread. I won't be repeating the same things over and over.
Thanksbye
