Reputation

So, I'm coming back to replay this game after a while since I last beat it, and I can't seem to recall if there's any point to the reputation mechanic. Can someone please explain to me what it influences?

If you go to the Mage's Guild, you can buy new recipes with reputation points. You can also go to the Adventurer's guild and train your skills in exchange for reputation points and you can buy chests of items for gold and reputation points.
