Sonic Mania no longer plays: crashes on start-up.

I was streaming the game via Discord to a friend doing some time-attack. I had a Windows 11 update that evening, and the next day, for some reason, the game's audio would not play. I checked all my other games, and their audio was fine except Sonic Mania. I tried various things like reinstalling the game, verifying file integrity, using the Mania Mod Loader, and placing an xaudio2_9.dll file into the game folder, but none of these worked. Instead, what eventually ended up happening was that the game never makes it pass a black screen and just crashes on startup. The game is seemingly unplayable, and I have no idea how to fix this. Don't know if it's any help, but I have these files in my game folder:

SonicMania.exe
steam_api.dll

I unfortunately don't have a solution, but in the event you never managed to fix it you could always try using the decomp and copying your save file over.

i'm also experiencing this exact issue- and other games as well. it seems any exe for a game that has any window pop up before actually running the game has this issue
