is this game different from sonic mania plus for switch?

They are the same. This version has mods though.

i've heard about the plus update for this game but only the switch game is named like this thats what confused me.
so content wise they are exactly the same?

Yes. Console versions cannot be modded, though. If you want to use mods, you'll need the PC version.

The Switch version has the Plus DLC included. The older versions had Plus as DLC.

Its a bit weird, but yes? If you get this youll have everything from Plus

They should have just called it Plus DLC. There's no difference between the PC versions with Encore DLC and the console Plus release, besides the physical goods that come with the latter.

Stuff like the new Metal Sonic boss was included as an update here isntead of as Plus. Its a bit confusing. Just know that buying the DLC completes the game.

If you install the Encore DLC then Sonic Mania becomes Sonic Mania Plus (you will see the "Plus" appear on the title screen).
