Get Sonic Mania on Switch or PC?
Hey, guys,

I have a 4k capable PC and monitor, but I also have a Nintendo Switch. I know getting it for the PC probably seems like the obvious choice, but I really like the idea of portability and using it on a large TV. Do you think this game will even support resolutions higher than 1080p? Are there any major differences between the two formats? Just trying to see if anyone perhaps has some information that I don't before I pick a platform.

Thanks

Each has their advantage. The Switch version has portability, while the PC version will likely have modding. Personally, I'll get both, but if I had a choice, I'd get the PC version for the possibility of mods. The game, otherwise, will probably not have any notable differences other than the platform. Dunno about resolution.

Hope it doesn't lag on PC. My computer isn't the best, but still decent.

I am getting it for PC. With it being a retro sonic game and how at the time of the retro sonic games the blue blur and the fat plumber were not on the best of terms it just feels like heracy for me to play Sonic Mania on a Nintendo system but to each their own. Also with PC i will be able to map my Genesis controller to the game and play Sonic Mania like it was meant to be played.

What i replied on another thread: Switch if you travel or want play in the bed, bath, etc. Otherwise PC.

Preordered here on Steam to be part of the initial wave of support for the developers and in case there's a modding future, but my core purchase is on Switch. Portability's the most important part about gaming to me now (I travel a bunch and prefer having the sceen close up in my hands) and I'm really looking forward to using the joycon's solid d-pad for platformers like Sonic.

Only thing about the Switch version is that it's not being handled by the developers and instead by Tantalus Media, so if there's any bugfixes it could get messy. Sonic CD got a bunch of patches on mobile from Whitehead himself but not on here and consoles, with those versions handled by Blit Software instead. Switch version of Mania could be left behind unless SEGA moderates things better this time around.

Well with the switch you have the option to go mobile, but still have the option to play as a normal console. So it would probably be better to get the switch.

SWITCH if you want to play whilst outside. PC if you play at home

PC Version Minimum Requirements:

OS: Windows 7
Processor: Pentium 4 1.6GHz
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compliant video card 32MB
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 400 MB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

These specs look like it could run on my convertible laptop, meaning the PC Version could be for portability as well as modding if one has a laptop too.

IF your PC components are newer than 2005, then you can play it without problems

Honestly, I'll get both, since the Switch version has portability and the PC version will have mods.

If I had a Switch I would've bought the game on both supports. I would even buy the 3DS version if there was one...

Anyway you should think if you want to play on the go.

Finally it would cost less than buying Forces so this is a win-win situation

You could always buy it for the Switch, then later on get it cheap for Steam during a sale.

I'll be getting both Switch and Steam versions of the game :steamhappy: - and most likely skipping Sonic Forces :steammocking:

I'm getting both versions.
