Since Sonic Mania has released, everyone has been saying that its the only good Sonic game since Sonic 3 and Sonic never worked in 3d, Even though its been done right so many times before. So now everyone is hating on Forces because its 3d, and people are assuming that Mania will be better. I hope that Sonic Team can make another great 3d Sonic game and show people that Sonic can work in 3d.
imo, if mania was never released forces woudn´t get as much hated as it might be getting
(not saying mania is bad, I haven´t even played to have opinion xD, but it looks AWESOME)
like mania got all the attention (or at least most of it) from the fanbase, mostly because of "nostalgia",and also since its a return to the "golden era"
I have good hopes for forces (and I'll be honest I'm slightly more excited for it :/)
- 2D sections for Modern Sonic and OC the OC when Classic Sonic is already 2D
- Wisps coming back as well as Colors' double jump (apparently those are bad [?] yeah I don't understand the problem there)
- Green Hill Zone again, even though it's one of 3 good zones from Sonic 1 (and it has the cool desert and factory things)
sonic unleashed day time stages look better than sonic forces speed stages and that game came out like almost a decade ago.
the "create a character" crap looks so corny and looks like it panders to devianart 8 year olds. flame thrower??? REALLY? what is this shadow the hedgehog all over again!!?
then again ive only seen one level so who knows others might be better.
- Level design: Looks too much like Colors (linear, too much 2D), not enough like Generations
- Music: Modern - great. Custom - fantastic. Classic - sounds like a Sanic fangame.
- Classic gameplay: Looks blander than Generations, mostle because of how Generations used 3D and multiple layers. GHZ with sand looks like a straight line, what is jarring in 3D. It's also less impressive than Mania.
- 2D. Why Modern Sonic STILL has 2D sections, when Classic is 100% 2D? Couldn't Modern be 100% 3D?
- Marketing. "Even heroes need help" and then Classic. Yeah, help of yourself. If they wanted pure 2D gameplay style with rolling, Tails and Knuckles would be better.
- Rehashes, AGAIN, after Generations. Green Hill AGAIN, Chemical Plant AGAIN, Planet Wisp AGAIN... And for Mania it's often the only complaint.
In short, Classic Sonic is redundant, level design doesn't twist enough and too much 2D (and Mania does 2D better) and rehashes.
Personally, Generations is my favorite Sonic game and my dream sequel to it is 100% 3D boost gameplay, with other characters and new stages. Forces seems to be close to that perfection, but still hasn't reached my dream game. But despite that, I'm expecting the best Sonic game ever made.
I'm looking forward to Forces myself, I actually am looking forward to it more than Mania, because I enjoy the 3d era Sonic games more than the 2d ones majority of the time.
I am slightly disappointed about the game looking like a Sonic Generations 2 more than anything else, not that I don't want a Generations 2, but I would like to see more Sonic Adventure style games without the focus on Classic Sonic as well.
People also make fun of the character creator, since it allows you to make your own characters using sonic themed animal designs. The Sonic community is known for making their "OC do not steal" Sonic characters, so unsurprisingly people are expecting to see a lot more of those after Forces releases.
I enjoy character creators in general, so I am going to just treat it like any other character creator, like the ones in Fallout/Skyrim, and enjoy it for what it is.
I have a hard time seeing how people could think the game will be bad though, if they liked Generations at all. Seems pretty clearly to be a Generations 2 as I said, following the same design in general, but having maybe more focus on plot.
Oh, and Infinite's theme I think is both hilariously cheesy, and also sounds pretty good. I used to like classic Linkin Park music and music styled off of that, but I can't help but giggle when I hear lines like "I am the sharpest of blades, I'll cut you down in a second". It's hard for me to take music seriously with those kind of lyrics. Otherwise I think it sounds pretty decent.
I pretty much agree to everything here, one neat thing about Infinite's theme is when you play it and tracks like Open Your Heart or Reach for the Stars it sounds like a hero and a villain arguing.
