out of boredom i've decided to make a story timeline of all the sonic games. it might be wrong it might be imprecise but what ever. anyways here we go

(Edit i'm going to stop putting the new and updated timeline list in my posts i'm just going to edit the first post from now on)

again i started this the other night because i was board and its been kinda fun to find out things and update the list like this

i just skimmed throught a youtube video of the game and checked the wiki. Tails is in the game so it would have to be after Labyrinth (Sonic and Tails meet for the first time just before sonic the hedgehog 2 for game gear) it would take place after Tails Skypatrol i'll say after Sonic Spinball i saw there is a poster of the game in there lol. interestingly i found out that the 3D sprites for Sonic Schoolhouse came from the cancelled Sonic X-treme

As far as I'm concerned, it starts with Sonic 1, then Sonic CD, and at this point it splits in two. The good future leads to the Classic Sonic timeline, with 2, 3&K and soon Mania, and some of the little extras on the sides. While the bad future leads to the Modern Sonic timeline. The basis of this is Sonic 4, which shows Little Planet as being in the bad future. This led me to believe that the Modern timeline came about due to Eggman succeeding in Sonic CD.

that's actually a good theory. i was thinking that some of the bad endings in the games could be canon like Sonic 1 for the genesis bad ending could lead in Sonic 1 for game gear. (Sonic beats eggman but he dosen't get the chaos emeralds and Scrap Brain is still standing. but in he tries again in the game gear sonic 1 there he beats Eggman gets the emeralds and destroys Scrap Brain and Eggman's skybase and gets rid of the pollution on the island)

Those are interesting to think about too. Sonic CD just has a good basis for it since it involves time travel, and that usually leads to different timelines. Just look at the Zelda series!

Well, Mario doesn't really have a timeline. The whole series is basically nothing but standalone stories that could take place at any point in time with no real continuity.

Yeah, especially considering that there is two different version of Mario Bros 2 (the USA version, which was a dream after all, and the JP version which was more like a level pack), maybe there is a timeline for the 3D game (considering that there is some recurring new character like Bowser Jr), anyway I hope they could Justify the events of Odyssey (and maybe we'll see Delphino again considering that Mario travels in the world)

Actually, Sonic's timeline is on "packs". Sonic 1 to K is one story, while Adventure 1 to shadow is another. Now the problem comes with Unleashed, Colors, Generations and Lost World's continuity.

to be honest as far as i know there is no offical timeline for the Sonic series. (or Mario for that matter) my list is just trying to fit the games together in a way that makes sense. thats why i used a single linear timeline and not a split timeline becuse its harder and a little bit more fun to try and fit them all together in one straight line. again my timeline is not perfect and if might be wrong in some places. but again its just fun to talk about the games and see if we can fit all the pieces together thats why i want anyone who wants too speak up and tell me if the list is wrong and why so we can try and make it all fit. its all for fun and it shows our love for this series and and its long history. SONIC FOREVER!

You also forgot Lego Dimensions Sonic Level Pack, unless that's set in it's own universe, speaking of which the level pack might actually be a good start for an actual Lego Sonic game!

I'd imagine the Lego stuff is its own thing. Much like how I would say Lego Star Wars is definitely not part of the Star Wars canon :P
