why is sonic mania so hard or sonic games in general?
i'm still up to flying battery act 2 and can't even pass the whole damn act i grew up with sega game drive, 2d platforms, sonic cartoons, the old sonic and playing sonic games and still can't compete with sonic mania plus the boss and special stages are even harder.

Mania's disappointingly easy, and they did this to try to appeal to newcomers. I find myself going back to Sonic 2 and 3 to be challenged. You just need to get used to platformers in general. I remember the classics used to be impossible when I was a kid.
Try Sonic Mania Plus's emerald stages. I gave up months ago.

Only parts that were really hard for me were the Special/Bonus stages and Titanic Monarch. I have not played Encore yet, but I have it.

Mania does a great job of evening out the difficulty youd find in the classic games. The problem is really the players. Classic sonic games had 4 pillars of gameplay. Speed, exploration, platforming and pinball. Modern players only really understand "boost" and think the gameplay should consist of pushing right for 90 seconds.

Mania is not a hard game. Its the most fair and balanced the classic sonic style of gameplay has ever been.

Sonic 1 has many slow levels, Sonic 2's second half is kinda uneven.

Modern games have a different philosophy.

I didn't have a particularly hard time with the main game, to me it felt just right but the Special Stages can seriously do one. Special Stage 6 is possibly the worst level design I've ever seen in a Sonic game so far. People complain about the Sonic CD Special Stages yet I found those a lot easier. Idk perhaps it just comes down to you as an individual as in how good you are and I'm just not as good as my younger self (I'm 45 now)

The stages are over designed, Sonic is suppose to be able to run fast through all the stages, there's too much clutter in the stages, this is what happens when you have fans make a game instead of the real developers

slower does mean slow, you can speed through all the stages in the classic sonic games, these levels are over designed, and not to mention the jump physics are not the same which makes platforming a chore

"Over designed"? What? Haven't you seen the design of Metropolis from Sonic 2 or Sonic 3&K's levels?

Aside from Studiopolis I can't really see how Mania has levels that are too cluttered. Sonic Mania is supposed to also be an hommage to Sonic CD which had more verticality.

What happened is that it was one of the most welcomed game in the franchise in decades.

And the "real developpers" made Forces.

Sonic 1 was not well designed. Don't tell me that Marble or Labyrinth were objectively the best levels.

The jump physic in Mania is closer to Classic than in Sonic 4 and Sonic Generations. The platforming sections are well designed since they're rare and not pixel perfect.

Basically, this is why we ended up getting games like Sonic Forces.
Who cares about challenge, reactions or timing? Just let Sonic speed through everything and let the game play itself with no skill required.

Maybe they're not 100% the same, but they're very close to how the original games were in that regard.

Eh, I do think Sonic 1 was a mostly well designed game outside of those two zones which are only about 1/3 of the game.

And 1/3 is already too much.

At least Sonic's Mobile remaster and Sonic 1 Forever mostly fixed the game.

I struggled on Act 2 a bit because I always winded up on the bottom path and the wind kept messing up my momentum, and Speed Highways boss was unfair because you're supposed to spin dash into the fake sonic clones and Metal Sonic's heart but the game gives you NO INFORMATION. In my opinion, Sonic Mania could use some more quality. Effects that show you did something right would be nice. Everything after Speed Highway is a breeze.

You're confusing speed highway for stardust speedway, speed highway is a sonic adventure stage.

But regardless, yeah the metal sonic boss in mania is kind of weirdly designed. It didn't stay consistent either, he has a whole different phase 2 that was changed with the Plus update. As far as I know, there isn't a way to play the original phase 2 without the use of mods.
