Anyone else think Phantom Metal Sonic Kai is way too hard?
This is the third time I've lost all my characters to it and had to use a continue. It's an immense difficulty spike in the middle of the game, and the difficulty drops dramatically after it. No matter what you do, you're screwed with this guy. Your partner can accidentally hit the weak spot before you causing you to fall through it, his attacks go off way too fast to hit him and dodge them, you can really only succeed with Tails; attack right before he does, and then fly out of harm's way. Even then it's supper annoying and drawn out since you can attack only once every ~8 seconds.

I just did that fight and died many times to it. Then my partner ended up getting stuck in the boss and just hit him non stop so I won a few seconds later. Getting stuck in the boss like that myself is actually the main cause of my deaths.

my best death from his was when I killed him after he had fired his ground laser thing, the laser stayed on and killed me after his death. they should have just kept the old boss battle.

Old boss battle wasn't even a fight. Unless you intentionally avoided recollecting rings it was impossible to lose to him because the ring always got stuck near the spikes if I recall.

Not even sure if it's intended. Maybe Sega has more fixing/patching to do, question mark...?

It is certainly a flawed boss, as jumping at it will likely lead to a quick death. However if you spindash into him, you'll be bounced far back to the right. Sonic can also drop dash into him. When I first fought him, I quicly lost all my characters and was stuck with Knuckles.. lost about 5 continues with him, but finally finished him off by carefully gliding into him and quickly leaping and gliding away. But the spindash seems to be the most reliable method, just watch out for the attacks and arm.

I dunno, if anything I'm surprised the boss isn't harder for being a slow paced autoscroller boss. The fact the hand can't hurt you when he's flashing after damage just removes most of the risk, unlike how you can jump into the Death Egg Robot and still be hurt by the hand on the recoil.

Nah, I never had problems with him once I realized how to fight him. Instead of jumping for his weakspot, do a spindash into it. The momentum will carry you back out of danger when you bounce off. Jumping on it is what puts the player in danger of falling into a pit.

Both of these are valid strategies that make the boss much easier. What I did was (as sonic) I somehow got behind it and kept bouncing on the weak spot repeatedly, sure if you miss you fall and die but you can avoid the arms and actually beat the boss really quickly this way. I wish I could give a better explanation of what I did but it all happened so fast. I didn't die as many times as others but I did lose two characters and I barely ever lose anyone, so I was still kind of panicked.
