5 common issues (and possible solutions) in Mania Plus.

Half the threads here are repeating the same problems. I felt like putting all mine together.

These are issues that I've had, and have seen others have.

1. Game won't remember to stay in full screen mode.
2. Game doesn't listen to PS4 controller despite it working in Steam Big Picture.
3. Display goes blurry.
4. Slowdown (I get this occasionally, other have reported it being more permanent)
5. "Preparing to launch Sonic Mania..." forever. This is only on my laptop; it does start fine on my PC.


It's a bit frustrating since none of these had to happen, as Mania was already fine in these areas.

Not taking credit for these, but quick approaches that should help:

1. Not sure. Deleting Settings.ini didn't help.
2. Go to Big Picture -> Library -> Sonic Mania -> Manage Game and make sure the PS4 controller is setup in *both* Controller Options and Controller Configuration.
3. Delete Settings.ini.
4. For those getting the permanent slowdown, try turning VSync ON. This solved that issue on my laptop. For sporadic FPS drop, not sure.
5. Restart Steam, try offline mode, try online mode again.

1. This is a minor inconvenience more than a major problem. And i havent experienced myself soooo

2: Many controllers work natively in Big Picture. It doesnt mean all games will work with all controllers

3: This is possibly due to your graphic settings/drivers or your graphics card. I havent experienced this myself.

4: This is more likely to be due to your computer specs. However i have heard some people saying that Plus is very unoptimized

1. The game is probably having trouble editing settings.ini

2. I'm not sure, actually.

3. That's because shader support is disabled in settings.ini for some reason. Editing settings.ini will fix that.

4. Probably related to other programs (e.g Windows 10 Update Assistant) running in the background.

If you have a DS4 controller, please unplug it and use an Xbox 360 controller, if not, verify your game files. My game hasn't crashed at all since the update.

With all issues listed above, the key point is Mania didn't have them, Mania Plus does.

Playing Mania the night before, none of these issues.
Even playing Mania (PC) and Mania Plus (PS4) at the same time with the same controller. None of the above issues.

Calling computer specs is a bit 2009 heh.

People without Plus have issues 3 and 4, though.
Issue #3 is caused by an error in settings.ini, like I've said in other threads. You could trigger this accidentally by messing with settings.ini.
Issue #4 is related to the patch that was released yesterday, which did nothing. (The game slowed down for me once after installing the patch, but I don't have Plus.)
I don't use fullscreen mode and I don't have a PS4 controller, so I can't check issues 1 and 2.

Interesting about Issue 3. I hadn't messed with that ini file, didn't know it existed. I could make a guess that something screwed up related to my many attempts (via game options) to get the game to stop starting in windowed mode. It's just a guess, but that one is a Plus (or the patch that Plus comes with) issue it appears.

For issue 4, and perhaps all the issues, I guess I'd be better saying "for the patch that Plus comes with".
