Sonic Mania

Sonic Mania

Vezi statistici:
Anyone else think the ending and Encore feel rushed?
I love this game, but it feels rushed and has potential that it didn't reach for me..

(Some tiny Encore spoilers ahead)

Namely, the endings, even the all emerald ones, don't feel satisfying enough. They're all just a few seconds long, even with Encore mode, and cut to credits. There's only just one boss (or two as Sonic) to fight at the end (Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and S&K each had three final battles in a row).

I also really thought Encore mode would have a special end boss. Like fighting the Reverie boss as all five heroes, or a new boss. With how much harder the Special Stages are this time around, you'd think something special would be waiting for you at the end.. but just a 3 second running scene. No iconic moment of them all leaping at the screen, just fade to credits screen with shapes. I physically sank in my seat when the credits showed, cuz I was really hoping (and expecting) something, but that was it. You're even teased with the appearance of Heavy King at the end if you don't collect all emeralds, but when you do, you don't even encounter him (besides the very start. Which.. oh yeah, Angel Island felt rushed as well, just a half act and no boss.)

It's weird, like throughout the game I could see so much effort was put into this creation, all the references, the detailed sprite work and drawn animations, but at the end it just fell very, very, very short? There's also some other tiny details, like the save file just reading "CLEAR" whereas in S3&K it displayed a portrait of your character, and then all emeralds would result in a final portrait of all heroes. It's just not as satisfying of an ending.

I hate to sound so down about the game, as I did enjoy it a lot, but it left off like it wasn't quite complete yet.

The whole expansion feels kinda rushed. Mighty and Ray are broken; in Encore mode the two of them outclass Sonic, Tails and Knuckles 95% of the time. They only added 1 new boss (The Kaiser Metal Sonic form) and 1 new zone (Angel Island Zone), and the stages are identical with slight assets swapped around.

Making the bosses slightly harder doesn't count as "Different"

I agree about the expansion feeling rushed, as with "harder" layouts, I thought harder boss fights would come as well, and as far as I've noticed, every boss feels the same as before, besides Metal Sonic of course, and.. a somewhat welcome nerf to OOZ 2 boss (rings get stuck in oil to allow recollection.. laser shoots less which wasn't an issue for me).

As for characters.. really? I found Ray as a less useful version of Tails, as Tails is able to have more freedom with flight and can attack while doing so. Ray's flight is fun to use, but isn't anywhere as powerful as Tails'. Mighty is surprisingly good, however his use is mainly locked away in Encore mode, because AFAIK, normal Mania levels have been untouched, so I don't think there are any secret Mighty pathways there.

On the topic of rushed things, the new transitions also seem rushed. I like how the Lava Reef Battle ascends towards Little Planet, but they just look into the distance and are there. Like it felt like they could have snuck in a night time Sky Sanctuary level in or something. A friend of mine brought up a silly idea for after Hydrocity, you get blasted out of a toilet from a saloon. How great would that have been? Hahaha.

Man.. there's quite a lot more they could have done. I don't suppose there'll be another DLC update though. or they could update again?

The difference between Tails and Ray; is Tails is safe and can fly longer, but it's slower. Ray's is harder, but faster. Once you master Ray's control, he allows you to tear through the zones insanely fast. Ray can also use the extra height to hit bosses earlier then designed; allowing him to rip some bosses apart. Tails is only more useful in Hydrocity; since he can swim. Tails and Ray together? You can rip the platforming apart. Mighty crushes bosses; since if he crouches; he is immune to most projectiles, and he can bounce off enemies unharmed; even if it would hurt other characters.
