I like this idea, but the question I have is why you would want to replace these HD-style sprites with low res ones such as the ones from Sonic CD?

I would like to say I am not trying to start an argument, but I am asking out of curiosity and with intention of starting a good discussion.

well. to be perfectly honest with you i want to swap it out with sonic 3 sprites. because i like that little skid/drift thing sonic does when he stops suddenly from going top speed. i also do kind of like the way that sonic has a more firece/determined look. i tried the sonic 3 mod for this game but he doesnt have that move. im wondering if i could do a better job.

Makes sense. Was just curious. Although Sonic 3 had the second best sprites in the series for the classics

I would suggest the Mania Mod Manager. It's the best way to extract the data.

i already tried something else called sonic mania mod studio. it just came out on the 7th.

but after fiddling around in GIMP with sprite sheets it seems pretty complicated. trying to put sonic 3 sprites into the mania sprite sheet wasnt as easy as i thought itd be.

Spriting is never easy, at all. I have a few years of experience with it... And I'll say that it's definitely not the easiest of things. I regretably retired from that years ago, but have been slowly coming back to the editing scene. Heck, I made my profile picture from scratch, recoloring and all. It's not fully complete, but it might get complete soon. GIMP is fun to use.

Edit: The Mod Studio is what I meant. I accidentally posted the wrong program, my bad.
