After perfecting all the Blue Spheres stages

Completed all the Blue Spheres stages with gold medals, but the starposts still work as normal. Is there any benefit at all to entering Blue Spheres stages after you've won them all? Haven't noticed it give any extra lives or points.

There is no benefit rather then to just replay the stages over again.

No benefit at all, even if you like blue sphere it is better to play it from the extras menu since it contains additional levels and mechanics unlike the starposts. It's a shame if you ask me, if you would have unlocked the additional stages for the starposts and included a reward, like rings, extra lives and shields it would have been so much better.

I've also unlocked all gold medals and the starpost blue sphere is completely pointless now.

Not totally related, but it would have been nice if you had the option to replay specific Special Stages and Bonus Stages from a menu, rather than having to start a new game or constantly jump into star posts. Sonic CD lets you replay the special stages, so it seems a bit odd to me that I can't do it here.
Unlockable blue spheres is nice, but as far as I can tell you're given less options with it than Sonic 1 locked onto Sonic & Knuckles gave you. That game let you enter passwords to play specific stages and junk.

Well you can if you enable the developer menu.

You go into Steam/steamapps/common/Sonic Mania

Open settings.ini with notepad

Type devMenu=y under [Games], then file-save.

Press Esc anytime in the game to open the developer menu.

That's a shame. In Sonic 3D Blast, if you enter a Special Stage after getting the emeralds, you compete for an extra life instead. Given that lives are slightly pointless for anyone capable of completing all the Spheres stages, could make it a random monitor item instead, or a combination of stuff (eg. stars + speed + rings). Hell, maybe even an S monitor?

As it is, I guess the only point of entering Bonus Stages now is to come out of Super mode - and even then, there's no point whatsoever in *completing* the stage.

I think it would improve the experience if the rings you get in Blue Sphere go to your ring count on the current level or give you a random item after complete the bonus stage.
