I would say it's harder than Sonic 3 & Knuckles but easier than Sonic 1 and 2.
Harder for those who are just jumping in not expecting the unexpected for their first times.
That being said there are some aspects of the game that would chalenge those who played the games before but replaying the game thru multiple playthrus it will just get easier and easier to play as long as your memory is fresh about what is to happen in the stages.
Try playing this game (if its still readily to play) when your 50+ years old after a 30 Year break.
Will the experince be different? Will your skills be enhanced or rusty? Will you have a Good time
Eh, I wouldn't say that's universally true. I have a bit of a rough time with the bosses- but this is, yanno, a pattern thing mostly.
Trial and Error. Some people will have troubles their first couple of playthrus with a few bosses on here.
I can name a couple that might give rough times
Act 1 Boss of Garden Press, Act 2 of Flying Battery, Act 2 of Oil Ocean, Act 1 of Titanic Monarch (as Knuckles), Act 2 boss of Stardust Speedway, and more over Extra Boss.
It varies on players skill at platformers nevertheless. If they are experinced and figure out the pattern it will become more accessible to conqour however if they struggle on how to plan a way of attack and note the attacks the bosses give out. Indeed they will have troubles.
Sonic 1 is a little challenging (both versions). 8-bit Sonic 2 is difficult. Sonic Unleashed gets somewhat difficult near the end.
That's about it.
Easy overall but that doesn't mean it's entirely devoid of challenge either.
inb4 some "professionals" describe this as THE DARK SOULS OF SONIC
Sonic 2, he specifically made sure the only way into the Death Egg was completely cleared of rings. He's probably gotten more hasty and careless with his plans over the years because of how insane he's been driven by a pack of furries for over two and a half decades.
then again ive played the blue spheres on my genesis so idk if that makes a difference or not..
