anyone else find this game is too easy?
ive unlocked everything already. the special stages were simple after a couple tries. as were the bosses.

i wish they had put more content in this game. the only challenge now is learning the levels to be able to speedrun them.

All sonic games are fairly easy honestly... I finish the game often with my characters running 50+ lives now, can get the chaos emeralds by the second zone act 1 and have all the medals too.

they should have put in a special stage replay in the extras menu just like the blue spheres. ugh.

It's harder than the original games on the whole, but yeah, it still weighs in on the easy side with all the lives you can farm and how easily you can get stuff like the Super transformations, Hyper Rings, Shields, etc. On top of Sonic's overly forgiving rings system to make being reckless a viable tactic.

And that's totally fine, since Sonic has to be accessible to everyone. It's as you said; the real challenge with Sonic has always been in speedrunning and learning the levels inside out to be as optimal as possible. It's why he's always had such little content versus most other games.

I think this game is -somewhat- more challenging than the Genesis games in that everything is so new to me. Y'all need to rip the level maps.

No. If find it about the right amount of difficult. Perhaps a little more than I recall, even.

Replaying the classic games I find Mania significantly easier.

Maybe. I find when I pick those games up the muscle memory is still there and I can nearly do it with my eyes closed.

But then again, that begs the question of what "difficult" is.

Agreed. This game IS easier than the Classics to me from the bosses to the Special Stages.

I mean S3K Marble Garden Zone Act 2 boss with Tails is one of the hardest things to complete for me. And thank God Mania didn't try to copy or reference that with Tails.

I mean, I'd say it is. I've even replayed the classic games a bunch before getting Mania on Switch; it's still even above Sonic 1 and 2 for difficulty even though Sonic 1 and 2 both have no save system and no rings for the final bosses. Sonic 3 really dialed back the difficulty from the first two games (especially since it's all over the place between the two games that make it whole) and Mania feels like it pushes back with trickier platforming from the first two games, on top of a number of much more engaging bosses you can't just spam with mercy invincibility and the pressure of a time limit with longer and intricate levels.

But again, still on the easy side, especially with the Super forms being so easily accessible. Came out of my first playthrough with over 50 lives, thanks to farming them with all the rings and 1UPs hidden around (and getting Super Sonic before Studiopolis Act 2, making the following special stage rings a free 50 rings for about 70% of the game). Still nothing compared to Sonic 3 having the chance to max out your lives counter before a fresh playthrough finishes, especially thanks to easy bosses, bonus stages and special stages rewarding you rings and lives, and the abundance of special stage rings.

Sonic games tend to be designed to be pretty baby-proof whilst still having some depth to them, similar to mario in that regard.

Yet "professional" reviewers still cry that it's too hard because losing lives makes you go back to the start of the stage lmao

I think Sonic Mania is not an easy game. But we got better with the age. When Sonic & Knuckles came out, it took me several weeks to end it, and some more to make it with al emeralds.

In anticipation for Sonic Mania, I decided to replay Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and it took me two days to make it at 100%, Also, I played Sonic Classic Heroes (a great romhack, you must try it if you didn't already) and completed it little less of two days.

Sonic Mania have the perfect amount of difficulty and challenge. Im enjoying every little bit of it.

That's why SEGA don't want to make hard sonic game. Because even with easy Mania there is still people that dislike this game because it's "too hard and punishing". And some reviewers cried about it too. People don't want challenge, i guess. They don't have patience for that. You can check this forum and find many threads about "annoying" Oil Ocean and Octupus\Spider bosses. Everything that has a little bit of challenge is annoying or boring (because it's not easy right). Im not saying that is a bad thing. People don't want to tryhard, that's normal.
But i wish there was a Hardmode. That would be awesome. This game is amazing, but i want more challenge. Maybe i should wait for mods that gonna make this game harder.

I still don't know why people take this so personally.
