How to play as Knuckles and tails and willl it be worth it?

I have finished the game with sonic but i dont see any option to play as Knuckles and Tails. How to select them? And will it be worth it or is it just the same game but you play with them instead of sonic?

You might be able to do this with the " and knucles", but honestly i did wonder about that too. Well met. Tails would be main character and knux (presumably) may grab on for an airlift?

You press UP or DOWN in the save game selection menu on a NEW save game to choose your character(s). Tails might not be worth it (although he has very different game play, so you might go for him) but Knuckles is definitely worth it since he has different path ways, bosses and even zones.

Yes, I started playing as Knuckles yesterday and it's definitely worth it. He can get to places Sonic can't, and finding giant rings is much easier with Knuckles, for example.

There is no official way to play as Knuckles and Tails, that I am aware off.
But I believe a mod already exists for that, or should be in the works

Huh? Simply select the character in the save-select menu (à la Sonic 3 & Knuckles).

Lol, I meant Knuckles AND Tails, in that order, with the main character being Knuckles. I edeited my statement

Ok i selected another save file and yes it gave me the option to select knuckles or tails. Now i will replay it with knuckles and after that with tails.
