If you don't want to invest that much money: XBox One / XBox 360 Controller. Just like the Elite Controller, it has the best support for PC games, it's basically the official PC Controller.
If you just want a controller only for this game and maybe other 2D Games: really any cheap controller will do, just install Xpadder and you can emulate keyboard keys to any controller buttons. It will work on all games perfectly that don't need analog input.
thanks Kay Jay. I'll think invest in a Xbox controller. I have windows 10 so it should just install automatically. Don't think my budget will stretch to an Elite! I'm not much of a hardcore gamer anyway. (SM is more for nostalgia kick if anything.) Is buying pre-own ok, or would you recommend going for a new device?
But you already got one, so for someone who comes in this thread then
Or xbone elite pad.
If you're interested in DS4Windows, use this version; the original was discontinued, and this guy has made some insane improvements to it. After using this version with the Sony USB Adaptor, I can't imagine using another controller.

They even have a switch on the back that lets you switch between dinput and xinput which alone makes it compatible with a wider variety of games then the xbox-brand controllers do
