Good performance on a old PC
Since the release day, i heard and read from many PC users that Sonic Mania was running with low FPS or some hiccups even in High End machines. Many people assumed this was caused by Denuvo, taking much of the system's resourses to run the game, but is that all the cause? I find it all strange because i never had any performance issues with this game on my machine, even before the update, and its a 10 years old PC!

In many brazilian Sonic fan pages and groups, PC users reported the same problems.

Well, i'm not a expert in computers, but i know a software (specially a video game) is programed to work in different builds, old and new, bad and good ones, but the developers can't predict which part everyone PC is using, what drivers they are using, what O.S, what is the state of the PC used, this could cause some oddities, i've seen weaker PCs running better games than mine couldn't handle, and my PC running game it shouldn't, like Sonic Generations.

Ok, if you're wondering, i'm playing Sonic Mania at full 60 FPS, fullscreen, no hiccups, nothing, no input lag, nothing, no crashes, everything is fine until now (i'm in Mirage Sallon). My PC specs are:

-Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit (it was never updated, really, i only install what i really need)
-4 GB RAM 667 (3,37 used, but because of some drivers and processes, i start with 2,4 GB free RAM after the boot)
-Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 (2,0 Ghz)
-Geforce 9500 GT 1 GB (official nvidia driver 342.01)
-Motherboard: Asus P5LD2-X
-Monitor: LG Flatron L1760 (it's a 4:3 monitor, but its still bright and coloful, works fine since 2007, and using VGA mode, and i'm playing in 16:9 mode)
-I'm playing with a PS/2 keyboard, i'm alread used to playing PC games on keyboard, Sonic Mania works great on it.

As you can see, some parts are really old, and never had any of these issues, so it might not be Denuvo which is causing all of this (i'm not defending Denuvo, ok?), it might be some incompatibility issue with new PC parts or drivers. And how do you take care of your computer? I'm not trying to be the annoying father here, but i'se many newer computers having issues and decreasing performance way faster than mine because the user don't take good care of it, and i'm not talking just about physically taking care, having all your files and folders organized helps with performance, doing discs defrags, not installing a bunch of adware, and stopping and deactivating system's useless processes.

Also, what anti-virus program do you use? I'm only use Avast free, you don't really needmuch protection when you know want you're doing and all places of the internet you should'nt go or what files you should not open, i never had problem with malware, this program takes little ram to run.

Still, these performance issues should never happen in newer computers, try to run the game in offline mode, it opens faster on it. Here Sonic Mania too is a resourse hungry, taking 50% of CPUs power (its in 1% when left in iddle with nothing open), this way more than Sonic CD 2011 and more even than Sonic Generations on modern Sonic stages!

If you guys have some spare old computer, try to install Sonic Mania on it, maybe it works best on it.

The game uses a low as ♥♥♥♥ internal resolution. Even an intel gpu could pull 60fps. Denuvo adds a slight cpu overhead and I mean slight; any modern processor wouldn't know the difference.

The extra cpu usage could well be linked to the steamworks api just like baynonetta was. That game ran like crap because sega failed to integrate steamworks correctly. No denuvo there. Ironic, right?

Its why the official version ran at 20fps for some people (myself included) but a cracked version ran at 60fps...

Playing on an Acer Aspire One netbook I bought in 2012. Specs include AMD C-60 dual core APU at 1.333 GHz, 2GB RAM, and Radeon HD 6290 with 256MB.

For me, the game runs 60FPS for me, some minor slow down in special stages, but not unplayable. I'm thankful it does run this good, I don't have to wait until I get a new PC or even a Switch to play and enjoy this game.

I'm using Avast free and Malware Bytes for protection, and keep Avast set to gaming mode. I did add Sonic Mania's folder to exclusions of both as several reported their anti-virus programs deemed Sonic Mania infected.

When i downloaded and installed Sonic Mania, my Avast never reported anything, it installed normal, all the main modules are running, and i use Game Mode as well for my PC games.

I use Malware's Byte only for a better scan.

So the game is running slow in some computers because Steam API isn't well programed for Mania? This still don't explain why my PC didn't had any performance issue with this game when other better PCs had.

Me niether, I did it in event it may decide too. You don't have to add it to exclusions.

Its weird, but it was the same with bayonetta. The people that had the worst performance were those with more powerful machines.
