Saturn usb controller doesn't work?!
I was setting up the buttons and steam doesn't recognize its d-pad. Am I going to stuck with 360 controller and its clunky d-pad?

Start Big Picture Mode. Click the Gear. Select Controller configuration. This will allow you to set up the controller and enable it for use with the game using something similar to Steam Controller bindings. You may need to turn on Generic Controller support.

Don't do what Ness just said. I try'd it, was able to navigate with my usb controller on Big picture mode, but not only it was still not recognized by Sonic mania, i was unable to play with all the other game i own, like sonic generation and GRID, i had to remove it from the Big Picture mode to be able to play again with my controller to the others game.

Did you configure the buttons before turning on Generic controller support? It worked for me when I tried it with a Generic controller for Ty 2.

Yes i did, otherwise i would have not be able to navigate with my controller in Big picture mode.

I m happy it worked for you tough. I retire what i just said, it's maybe worth a try for the OP.

I'm using an original Sega Saturn MK2 pad via a USB converter. It was a pain in the arse to get it set up in big picture mode (which as far as I'm aware is the only way to set it up), for some reason it wouldn't let me save after setting the controls, had to restart big picture mode a number of times before the option would appear at the bottom. Once I got it setup though as a fake steam controller (just make sure you map the d-pad to the left control stick, NOT the actual d-pad in the list, the menu goes nuts otherwise!), it was all good.

Before you turn on Generic controller support, I think you have to bind the buttons to Xbox 360 controller input. I can't remember how to do that off hand, but I think you have to register it. After that, you have to configure it on a Game to game basis. It might be time consuming if you have a lot of games, but if most of them support Xbox 360 controllers, there are templates that can speed things up. I also know Sonic Mania goes to the Steam Controller configuration screen when you use the Steam Controller and has the buttons bound to in game commands over a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad binding by default. I also know some games can be picky about Steam Controller support.

You don't seem to understand. I have bind my controller, if i didn't i would have been unable to navigatie with confort with the controller in the Big Picture mode. It was working fine into the big picture mode, but not in the game.

Okay, moving on. You need to bind it a second time for the game. For Sonic Mania, there's an option to do that in the options menu. There's an official binding for the game, so you can use when you get to Steam controller binding screen. You can also right click on the game's title in the client or click on manage game and controller configuration in Big Picture mode to while the controller is plugged in to get to the same screen.

I finally found something. It's seem's to be a Steam fault, not this game fault. When i restart steam the bind are not save and i have to do all the configuration again. Steam Big Picture Controller Configuration seem's to be broken. When i right click in the game in my library i have no access to any kind of controller configuration and i have no controller configuration when i manage the game in big picture mode also. I also try'd with and without Steam beta access with no result.

It's a shame, but i think that i m going to ask for a refund. It become too much complicated and i have a work, i can't give more of my time trying to play this game :/

I have it reset bindings before. I think you have to make sure to manually save them to reload them if they get deleted.
