I don't have or know of any other place to talk about this with. No one i know in real life is a sonic fan like me so I cant talk to anyone about this either. Although i most certainly will be buying this game again for the switch and steam.
Steam usually has the most responsive groups that people can hook up with, hence why i posted here.
If you so much as missed one roboticizer in CD, you would always get the bad ending. So either sonic missed one or didnt nab all the timestones, so generations is reaffirming that little planet was completely lost. Also, when did sonic 4 not become canon and how does it now fit into the series?
Generations: In Generations, Classic Sonic is pulled from the past which causes everything you did in every Sonic game to be undone during Generations. Classic Sonic however goes back to their time at the very end of the game, meaning everything goes back to normal.
Sonic 4: Sonic 4 became noncanon when universally no one liked the game, and Mania was essentially created to replace it. Notice how there's no 4 on the elevator in the intro. There's also no CD, which possibly lends truth to the idea of Mania being the CD of its universe.
Generations: yeah i think that makes sense.
Sonic 4: I liked sonic 4. Sky fortress and mad gear was always a blast and metal sonic in white park was interesting. Did you know if you don't hit metal sonic again when he reaches the stage where he starts taking out the path beneath you, his difficulty gets amped? Theres no semblance of pattern to his movements and it makes for an interesting longevity run. That aside, sonic 4 still cant be swept under the rug. It wasnt nearly as bad as sonic 06 and that was treated as canon alongside everything else in sonic generations so i fail to see why sonic 4 cant be canon as well.
Sonic 06 essentially retcons itself at the end though.
I think that Mania takes the place of CD in Mania Sonic's universe. That's why you free Little Planet, the final zone is on Little Planet, the Sonic CD UFOs return for the special stages, and CD doesn't appear on the elevator in the game's intro.
That stone the Eggrobos dig up is a time stone (Sonic CD was suppose to have eight time stones instead of seven, this is a reference to that) which Robotnik uses to warp time like he did in the bad ending of CD. That's why Little Planet (and the other older stages) are back.

Bad future Stardust Speedway in Generations? Time Eater could just bring it because it could like Crysis City. Sonic Mania is definetly after Sonic 3&K because it has Angel Island, Knuckles and also manuals refer to it as shortly after Sonic 3&K.
Little Planet appears above Never Lake once a year. How Mania's plot relates to CD's is anyone's guess, though. The official statement is that any questions about the plot can be answered by "the ruby did it".
And certaintly has nothing to do with the unused special stage in Sonic CD.

If you don't believe me, feel free to tweet the Taxman about it.
I feel like the Sonic series is gonna need it's own version of the Hyrule Historia just to explain the timeline
