No Super Emeralds in Sonic Mania.

It's funny cause Hyper Sonic became the most overrated Power-up in Sonic History. It's like SEGA themselves are just getting annoyed from the Fanboys wanting Hyper Sonic to return. But No no no no Nein. It's like something you see from a Anime Series where they get even stronger and stronger and stronger and stronger and STRONGER. It's like they don't want to do that. So let's go back to 7 Chaos Emeralds and back to Super Sonic we all grew up with.

Well, the manual says Tails is getting a different energy source this time. The things to be collected in the Special Stages might be the chaos emeralds, but I think the game will focus on something else.

Super Sonic was already overpowered. Not including super emeralds does not fix characters potentially being overpowered.

Anyway, I don't really care about super emeralds, but a game of length comparable to Sonic 3 & Knuckles really ought to have more than just 7 special stages. 7 just feels like too few for a lengthy game with so many chances to enter and complete special stages in it.

I doubt they will be used as plot elements. Super sonic for the longest time has been usable in any stage once u have all 7 chaos emeralds. This is a tribute to the classics and besides super sonic would not be that overpowered so no biggie.

The chaos and super emeralds were supposed to be a 100% bonus for the player to enjoy the game even after beating it (because there weren't any motives to get the chaos emeralds in Sonic 1 except for a bonus cutscene).

This should just be a bonus, nothing else story-wise.

We are getting the chaos emeralds and we are also obtaining a "new item" that is just as strong. That's what Iizuka said pretty much when Mania was 1st announced.

Not a fan of Super/Hyper forms tbh. I want a challenge.
