When it stops responding is your computer still responsive or do you have to hard reset it?
Does it happen right when you start up the game or only after a few hours of playing?
Standard procedure, verify the games files in steam (Library, Artifact>Properties>Local Files>Verify Integrity), or reinstall the game. Check your computer temps with a tool such as CPUID. After that, check your memory is okay, since that can cause issues which are otherwise hard to pin down. If you're overlocking check that it is stable.
Thanks for your reply.
I have not experience crashes with other games on my pc.
When it stops responding, everything else works just as expected, only artifact gets greyed out with the typical "Artifact is not responding" -> Close or Wait. I've waited for up to 15mins and nothing happened.
The first 4 crashed happened only after about 20min of play time. And now I can't even get past the deck draft screen without a crash.
I've verified the integrity, yet nothing changed. I've also re-downloaded the Game entirely.
GPU Temp averages around 60°C and CPU around 36°C.
Overclocking is not enabled.
How do I check the memory?
If it is the memory then you'd probably notice it in other ways outside of Artifact, like your system might be unresponsive for short times seemingly at random, you would probably get some blue screen crashes, other programs would crash or freeze, etc. It might be worth trying other solutions first. But if you've never tested your memory at all, and you can leave your PC running while you're away from it, it's probably worth it just to rule it out.
I would use Memtest 86+ http://www.memtest.org/
You can burn it to a CD/DVD (pre-compiled bootable ISO), or there are also installers to put it on a USB stick. After that, you restart your PC with the disc or USB in, and hold F8 to choose to boot from your disc or USB.
Memtest is very thorough, so you will need to let it run for some hours - ideally overnight. It will run until you hit ESCAPE to stop it. If it goes for hours without any errors listed then it's almost certainly okay, but any errors at all (shown in red) mean some of your memory is bad, and would have to be replaced - if you have multiple sticks you would probably then test each individually to work out which one is bad.
Thanks again for the detailed reply.
I've not noticed any other issues that could (in my opinion) be related to ram, might try the test anyway over night, just to be sure.
Interesting, with laptops I would often guess temps as well.
But my honest opinion is that it is probably an optimization issue on the software side from valve.
I'm running it on a high end desktop, with a fresh Windows install from a few months ago. I'm not having any other issues at all. All other games run without a hitch. Temps are fine too. Maybe its just buggy to the point it doesnt work properly on some systems.
My specs are as follows:
Intel i7 6800K
GTX Titan X (Pascal)
32 GB ram
Plenty of space on the SSD
Interestingly, the exact same thing also happened with Dota 2 (froze randomly with sound still playing, and if i waited long enough, it just came back on as if nothing had happened), but is not happening with any other games (none of which are steam games) that I have played.
I have done fresh installs of my graphics drivers as well as a fresh install of Steam, dota 2, and artifact (on multiple hard drives). I have also run memory tests, verified that nothing is taking up a large amount of processing/memory/disk during the freezes, and verified that no temperatures in my pc are high.
The problem may even be related to Steam itself, as recently when I close steam, artifact, or dota 2, it takes up to 3 minutes for each to reopen (for no apparent reason).
That is exactly what i experiance, game lunches for a long time, i installed dota2 to check if its the problem with source engine and Dota2 is taking along time to lunch and freezes after 4-20 minutes.
this is what i found in event log:
The program dota2.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
Artifact has the same error in event log:
The program dcg.exe version 1.0.0.1 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
