This would be good to know sooner than later because it is influencing my and possibly others during the sale or even off-sale due to the unknown dev interest in keeping the existing version updated (buying now) or if they intend to release a separate, new version (buying later).

5yrs later? I doubt it. This project seemed more like a revenue experiment. Likely it didn't meet expectations and was abandoned. I'd love to be wrong, but here we are.
