-if you hold down while moving off of a ledge, you will automatically grab it
-you can jump off of the edge of a platform while you're in midair; the timing for this is a little weird, but it might make some jumps easier
-in some levels, some really tight jumps can actually just be completed with a full jump or ledge jump, making them miles easier than they appear
-this is a little bit more advanced than the others, but fast falling onto platforms and ledges makes some fast-paced sections of the game much easier, it's a little tricky to get the hang of but some practice will do the trick
hope some of these tricks help you, if i think of more i'll send them :)
Secondly, if a particular screen feels far too difficult - try another approach. There is likely an easier way to do it. I had many 'aha' moments when simply stopping banging my head off of the same puzzle and going about it another way.
There are sections later on where you must climb stuff, but you need to fall fast to land first. There are also segments where falling fast saves you time to get some timings right.
I'm just saying to do this now so you develop the muscle-memory, unlike me who took a bit to adapt when it became necessary.
To add to Ryan said, when you're going after cartridges, you can "Leave" from the pause menu after obtaining them and you will keep them.
