Is there a reliable way to tell which destination a passenger will prefer if given two simultaneously?

There is not, unfortunately.

I tried to mostly avoid puzzles which rely on this, so hopefully the ambiguity is only rarely awkward!

But in a given situation the passenger would always choose the same home or is it random?

I have a problem with andromeda 12. If the passenger would just choose the other home, it would be ok.

It's consistent, the boxes have a priority and an alien will always choose the highest priority unused box.

Andromeda 12 I expect people to find the not-solution you're referring to before they find the solution. Sorry, I am a mean person :P

Yeah, im noticing the same issue in andromeda 12, unclear to judge which box the purple guys will choose when laying tracks that allows for two boxes to go home in.

Hm, I didn't encounter a situation like that in my playthrough (5 levels yet to solve) Here's my Andromeda 12 solution.

In my experience so far, it seems like the passengers always prefer the home to the right of the direction the train is moving.
