- Pure PK: This is a bully. They don't want to fight you, they only want to beat you up. So they target easy prey like weaker characters, AFK characters and boss alts. This t ype of PK is actually kind of rare in BDO and gets more rare the stronger you get because, as I said, they are not looking for PVP. They're looking for easy kills. In nearly 13000 hours of BDO I have run into pure PKs approximately 25 times.
- Territorial PKs: These are willing to risk that the person they attack can fight back. They want your turf. They want to push you out of where you're fighting monsters and convince you to either go elsewhere or switch servers.
You have three options on territorial pks:
1. You can fight them (or duel them if they offer) and chase them off,
2. You can switch servers or go elsewhere, or
3. You can ignore them. Every time they kill you, just resurrect and come back until they leave. You were, after all, there first. And this is, after all, your game as well. They do not have a right to push you away just because they're stronger.
I almost always pick option #3 with regard to territorial PKs, but sometimes they are polite and civil, and I've on occasion given them my territory if I was about ready to leave anyway. However, if they're rude, I add them to my block list so I can't hear their insults and stay until they leave.
There isn't really such thing as Karma Bombing they're the ones attacking you and not vice versa. If they don't want to lose Karma, they should not attack you nor try to push you from where you're fighting monsters.
P.S. You ask if Karma Penalty is enough deterrent. The answer is not really. BDO ties Karma recovery to killing monsters, not to time. So they get karma back just doing what they would have done anyway. In addition, with the new crystal system where you can have 15 crystals per set and multiple sets, the risk of losing a gear level is non existent unless you don't use crystals.
That's why open pvp doesn't make sense, and games with such a system die quickly or have few players.
Until PA removes: exp loss for death, crystal loss for death, and cd to change channel then open pvp doesn't make sense in BDO.
You change the channel and someone will be on it again. And what will you do? You cannot change the channel for the next 10 minutes. Wasting time again.
You start karmabomb, your opponent will declare war on you. If you're not playing solo without a guild then you have no way to defend against it.
If PA wanted it, it would have removed toxic open pvp from the game a long time ago. But they won't do it because "that's their "vision" of the game".
And yet the solution is very simple: unlimited Marni Private Zone for all zones in the game.
And problem solved. Everyone plays for themselves and doesn't bother anyone else.
Enchant items is a different topic, but it is in second place for me, just behind open pvp. In third place is the lack of free fast travel to any node and cd when changing the channel.
The conclusion is simple for me: I haven't killed mobs in a long time, I'm currently finishing my horse training (I have about 20 T8 left) and the only thing I log into the game for is for daily rewards and world bosses.
For me, this game without changes that increases playability is dead, and I'm not going to grind for 5 or 10 years for end game items.
And the fact is that 9 out of 10 new players leave within a month just because of open pvp and the ridiculous enchant system that takes us back in progress making the whole grind pointless.
