Those are Field and World Bosses.
You can track the World Boss Times via this link:
https://mmotimer.com/bdo/?server=na
Change the sever region to your region
It is currently showing NA

Field Bosses you can only know when they are spawning when the in-game onscreen popup happens.

The Red Orbs with swirling dark energy in them and Roman Numerals at their bottom are Rift Bosses. You can fight them anytime their red orb is showing.
They start at difficulty V and each day or so get easier to I.

Field Bosses are random spawns.
But also know Field Bosses cannot be solo'd unless you have a very high AP and a decent DP to survive. They are not like easy quest line bosses in difficulty.

All you can do is, if you see a popup of say, Dim Tree has spawned (not those exact words), travel to the spot on your main map where it shows the Dim Tree icon.
If there happens to be a lot of players there, the boss could be dead before you get to it.
So, it is a matter of, if you look at your map and you are not close to the spot, you might not get there in time.

I can't top what Tsel13 said about finding and fighting the bosses, but I'll make a few quality of life ocmments.

1. Death Penalty
Field Bosses and World Bosses have death penalty. (Rift bosses do not, fyi).

This means that if you die you can lose XP and have some crystals smashed. So it's usually a good idea to make sure you do not have any valuable crystals active in your preset.

If your DP is less than 308 you'll probably die a lot (that doesn't mean you won't have fun, though).

If your DP is 322 or better, a lot of the hits that might normally one shot you will be survivable (though even with 378+ DP you may die from time to time, so don't let it bother you).

2. PKs
If you show up very early for a world boss, there's a good chance a player may try to kill you. They can't harm you if they do. Your crystals won't break, and you won't lose XP. Just resurrect and come back. World bosses in general are one of the most popular PK haunts because most people who attend take boss alts (non-high end gear), so the pks expect to have easy pickings.

3. Boss Alts
If there's a world boss you like, it's not a bad idea to park an alternate character there who is 61st level and who does not mind XP loss (you can't drop below 0% of your current level) and who does not use crystals which can break. I have boss alts parked at several of the world bosses. This means that a few minutes before the world boss arrives I simply switch to the boss alt character an am already in place ready to fight. It also cuts down on how much time I spend with world bosses. For instance, if Karanda and Kzarka spawn the same time, I log into my Karanda alt, finish karanda, then switch to my Kzarka alt and finish Kzarka. In 8ish minutes I complete two world bosses this way (longer if they're the stormbringer or nightmare versions, of course).

4. Looting
Most world bosses drop bags which you must loot (easier if you have a pet which will loot for you). Vell (in the ocean) is an exception. You do not need a pet for Vell because the loot will go directly to your black spirit safe for that boss. Try to loot the non-vell bags as quickly as you can because it's not uncommon for player killers to slaughter everyone right after a boss is done. Remember a PK can't actually harm you, but they can inconvenience you if you haven't looted yet.

5. It gets easier
Most bosses (except maybe TC Kutum which has absurdly hard mechanics) are straight forward and get much easier the more you fight them. It's okay to die a LOT in the beginning, but be aware eventually you won't die as much. I fought most of the world bosses with 308 DP just fine (with some deaths) before I decided to upgrade my boss alts to 322 or better DP.

If you're in PEN Tuvula gear (roughly 308ish DP), the easiest way to get to 322+ DP is to switch to TET Lemoria armor (if you'r eon a boss alt) or get some pieces of PEN boss armor (if you're on a main character). Then put at least 4 caphra levels into each of the Lemoria/Boss armor pieces.

On a boss alt I usually use full TET Lemoria armor with C4, and on main characters I either go with TET Blackstar armor (eventually to upgrade to PEN) or PEN Boss (yellow) armor (eventually to upgrade to caphra level 10).
