After character select?

After the last three to four updates, sometimes after I select my character, I have to wait just under a minute before the black screen dissipates and my character finally appears in-game.

I know BDO shouldn't be doing that, but try waiting about a minute, and see if that happens for you as well.

Problem is I can hear my character fighting in the background when I press buttons .... and I have been waiting for about 1.30 min and nothing happens.

My arrow comes up on screen and it changes when I do actions as well. So the game is running, just my screen is black.

No guarantees, but next login try, on first screen after white Pearl Abyss on black, instead of selecting Start, select Settings and check if all is how you expect it to be. In times past I have experienced changes - particularly in Display - whether accidentally, from a crash, or even perhaps from update. It doesn't hurt to then select Quit to make sure of a proper exit from game and then login from cold. Might also be the new initial signin thing - which I don't think I have encountered yet.

The OP's situation described mine exactly over the last few days. I would wait and wait, and usually it would come up, but sometimes it would crash at the end of a long wait on the black screen.

I suspect that the black screen masks a problem with the server being overloaded. Can't prove it, but it seemed that on a Sunday night, after many attempts to log in, the black screen happened frequently. The very next morning (today), I got right into the server on the first attempt and there was no black screen delay and no weird problems with missing quest-giving NPCs, sudden jumps back to earlier points on the map, etc.

Did you ever find a fix I am now having this problem after reinstalling windows to try to get better fps in bdo... Now I can't even play the game lol

Nope ....

Something that did help me one time tough.

When you get at the Character Select Screen ..... IMMEDIATELY after you clicked ENTER .... Mash ESC.

When I say IMMEDIATELY, I mean like once you clicked enter ... 0.00001 seconds after you clicked mash ESC

Have you tried running the "Scan Files" tool? It's run by clicking a button at the bottom of the PA Launcher.

Jip, nothing works. I tried Steam and within the Launcher itself.

Black Screening still. Sometimes mashing ESC works, other times I need to Alt F4 and try again.

Just leave it, after 10min it does load.

Think it loads Shaders in the Background or something, I don't know. But I just left it, went out, made some coffee, came back and it was loaded in
