Launch Error Failed to start game (2)
After Easy Anti-Cheat load bar completes: Launch Error Failed to start game (2)

Same thing with me since this patch on Wednesday 2022.01.19
Everything is set to Run as Administrator
I already did the scan files on the PA Launcher
I followed the self help instructions on the Pearl Abyss website to update Easy Anti-Cheat, the problem is still there.

I Log into Steam
Click Start on the PA Launcher
After that all I get is: Easy Anti-Cheat Launch Error Failed to start game (2)

My Anti-Virus program is: Webroot SecureAnywhere CE22.1 (v9.0.31.84)
Also, I already sent a support ticket with a PER unique ID: 2F648479-497E-4651-840B-F553EF05B6B2

First time ever I have not been able to log into and play BDO. 😞

EDIT (SOLVED) so far.

Okay, I finally got BDO to let me into the game.
I don’t know the specific thing that did it, but this is what I did.

I’m running Windows 10
I made sure BDO would be run as administrator

I cleared / deleted everything Inside these folders.
01) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Desert Online\ads
02) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Desert Online\Cache
03) C:\Users\your computer name\Documents\Black Desert\UserCache

04) I brought up the Pearl Abyss Launcher and had it scan files
05) I had Steam ‘verify integrity of game files’, the BDO game files
06) I brought up the Pearl Abyss Launcher again and in doing so, it started updating again…. let it do it

07) I opened Windows Security and went into the Firewall & network protection
08) I selected ‘Allow an app through firewall’
09) I clicked ‘Change settings’
10) I clicked ‘Allow another app’
11) I browsed and added the following:
a) C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat (both ‘EasyAntiCheat.exe & EasyAntiCheat.sys’)
b) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Desert Online (both ‘BlackDesertEAC.exe & BlackDesertLauncher.exe’)

My Anti-Virus/Firewall program is: Webroot SecureAnywhere CE22.1 (v9.0.31.84). You will have to figure out what to do with your Anti-Virus/Firewall program

12) On the right is PC Security and the right of that is a Gear Icon, click it
13) I did the following in both the ‘Block/Allow Files’ tab and the ‘Allowed Scripts’ tab
14) Block/Allow Files click ‘Add File’, I browsed and added the following:
a) C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat (both ‘EasyAntiCheat.exe & EasyAntiCheat.sys’)
b) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Desert Online (both ‘BlackDesertEAC.exe & BlackDesertLauncher.exe’)
15) Allowed Scripts click ‘Allow a file’, I browsed and added the following:
a) C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat (both ‘EasyAntiCheat.exe & EasyAntiCheat.sys’)
b) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Desert Online (both ‘BlackDesertEAC.exe & BlackDesertLauncher.exe’)
16) I launched Steam, clicked Play on the BDO game, clicked Start on the Pearl Abyss Launcher, and it worked. I logged out and back into BDO a couple of times and it worked each time.

Hopefully it works for you all. Wishing you all good luck. 😊

I received this message of things to do, but sadly the same issue still persists. It did not work. I still cannot log into and play BDO since after this patch on WED 2022.01.19

Hello there, Adventurer!

Thank you for contacting the Support Center for Black Desert Online! This is GM Moyamo, and I’m here to help with your inquiry.

We're taking technical difficulties very seriously and want to ensure that you receive the best service possible.

I understand from your ticket that your game crashes and is unable to launch properly, and this prevents you from having a smooth gaming experience.

Thank you for providing an image of the error message, we will list a series of steps for you to try to repair your game files:

First, please delete the following from your folders:

- The contents of your “ads folder”, which is located in your Black Desert Online installation folder.

- The contents of your “Cache Folder”, which is also located in this folder.

- Any files in your “temp folder” here: C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Temp

- Any contents of your “UserCache Folder” located in your Black Desert folder within the Documents folder.

Please be aware that this will delete your settings in game. If possible, please back them up in-game first before deleting these files.

Perform a Clean Boot on Windows, to do this open your Task Manager by right-clicking your Tool Bar to bring up the menu and select Task Manager.

Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable. Disable as many items as possible, you might enable them back later once the issue has been solved. Reboot your PC.

Next, please disable your current antivirus, in order to disable your Windows Defender temporarily follow these steps:

Click on the Windows start> type 'security', click Windows Security > click 'Virus & Threat Protection' > under V&TP, click 'Manage Settings' > turn 'Real-Time Protection' off.

Once disabled, please run the game to see if Easy Anti-Cheat could be conflicting with your antivirus software. Your Windows Defender will only be disabled temporarily and will automatically turn on again after a while.

These steps should resolve this issue for you! However, if you find that you’re still having an issue with your game not working as it should, please send us a reply with your WinMTR, which you can get by downloading and running the WinMTR program while you play BDO. For the Host, please input the IP:

- EU Server: 81.171.14.178

- NA Server: 49.236.159.226

Uncheck “Resolve Names” in the Options, then press Start. Log into the game and let the WinMTR run until you experience these issues - usually within a few minutes - then stop the WinMTR and select “Export Text” to save it to a convenient location for you.

Kind regards,

GM Moyamo

Are you still having this issue, as I am as well.
Tsel13 Jan 19, 2022 @ 1:59pm
Yes, still have the issue.
I have been trying different things for several hours and so far no success.
What bums me is I am missing my three Cron Stones from the butterflies and my 200 loyalty points each day that I cannot login. 😞

The Windows Defender option does no good for me because it isn't even on.
Webroot controls everything.
I disabled Webroot and the issue still happens.
I can't even log into BDO, so why was I asked to give WinMTR information while playing in BDO?

Again, this issue did not even exist until after this latest patch today Wednesday 2022.01.19.

Having the same issue. Even disabled Webroot to see if that was causing the issue...it's not. Tried the website, checking the cache, and even reinstalling. Same issue. Not the first game based overseas that's done this to me recently.

yep, I was waiting for a hot fix but looks like is not happening today... well looks like I will miss a day RIP
KuroHoshi Jan 19, 2022 @ 6:30pm
Yeah, I've trying everything all day and just nothing seems to be fixed even disabling webroot and disabling my firewall for a few seconds
kitty Jan 19, 2022 @ 6:48pm
that's bad.
is it windows 10 you're using? my game works on W7 after update, I just had one short time popup with anti cheat starting its service when I start the game, then it sits in services while I play and exits when I close the game.

have you tried to check services and processes (from all users) to see maybe it is stuck, probably starting anti cheat process manually before running the game?

Nice, so I followed your list starting from the top. Delete \ads and then used the in launcher scan/repair tool, Crash, Deleted common\Black Deserrt Online\Cache and then activated the in launcher scan/rrepair tool again, worked!

Great Tsel13 that you got it working.

For those that disabled Webroot: It needs to be uninstalled - there are still Webroot processes taking place with it disabled. One thing that I found out was to uninstall Webroot - start BDO and leave it running while reinstalling Webroot. It will recognize BDO as a baseline process and shouldn't interfere again -- until the next patch...

While doing all of the normal verify, scan, reboots and failing many, many times I got lucky and slipped one through and the game started. Lucky, I guess. I wasn't going to go through the process that Tsel13 went through when I know a patch will fix this as it has at least 2 other times since they started using EAC.

I found the solution that the devs probably doesn't know about.

Go to the steamapp folder than go directly to the Black Desert folder, proceed to activate the anti cheat program yourself, it'll fail, but after that the game should start. At least it did for me, I didn't even need to delete anything, it's just the program that's kind of faulty.

The program is named BlackDesertEAC btw.

Hope you get your dailies buddy lol.
