Black Desert Online : client authentication failure
This error just came up today as I was attempting to log into Black Desert Online via Steam Games. I have made purchases through Steam Games and / also direct from Kakao Games. I started playing Black Desert Online because of the 4th anniversary with the free to play option and have been no longer playing as such since the 4th anniversary ended. I have made a variety of purchases since enjoying this game so much. I have played World of Warcraft in the past as well as Star Wars the Old Republic and until Black Desert Online I had gotten out of MMRPGs for a few years. I got and played World of Warcraft heavily since it first came out and for around 10 years. I have played Star Wars the Old Republic heavily for about 3 years. Black Desert Online since I discovered it through Steam Games I did not know existed but have been playing it heavily for over a month now. Back to the issue of client authentication failure. I found an old Steam Games thread that has been closed and here is the issue with it since its locked : the explanation of how to fix is "oops
The page you were looking for doesn't exist
You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved"

So the thread is closed with no way to find out how to fix this issue.

I found https://www.gamewatcher.com/news/black-desert-online-account-authentication-failed-what-does-it-mean

Which has a step by step guide on how to fix this issue - part of it tells about this being a longstanding issue with Kakao Games and going back many years and you can Google the issue and posts made by players who either got back in or were unable to. In this guide is included what to do if you encounter "client authentication failure" and are connecting through Steam Games. I was able to connect by following this. I went into the folders both in the installation directory C:\Usersusername\AppData\Local\Temp delete everything in the temp folder. Microsoft One Drive did not want to close and if this happens go into the task manager and close it. Microsoft One Drive was preventing me from deleting the entire contents of the temp folder.

Next go into C:\Documents\Black Desert delete whatever was updated I found the GameOption had updated today so copied it and pasted into a folder on my desktop then ran file verification. Steam Games found 3 files missing and downloaded them. After this I verified again and it was validated. Then added --licenseRecovery=TRUE to "If you're playing via Steam you should head to your library, right click on the game and select Properties. From there, click the Set Launch Options button under the General tab." The game then has loaded fine and I am now playing Black Desert Online.

I wrote all this in order to help someone who may encounter this same issue. I have found that this issue goes back many years with Black Desert Online and I may encounter it again but hopefully not soon. In fact this article may help me connect to Black Desert Online since it is a common issue affecting many players.

The article explaining this issue is closed but the links to what to do no longer exist so while is was resolved and helped people in 2018 it is now 2020 and the explanation is "Oops the page you were looking for no longer exists."

This link explains everything about how to do but may also not exist in a few months or years so I have written it out how it works and what I did the process of fixing my Black Desert Online launcher via Steam Games.
