Do succession questline first, then awakening questline.

Yes, do what GrimLordKi writes.

Added information.
Some character classes require you to do the Awaken quest line first and then Succession.
-and-
Some character classes require you to do the Succession quest line first and then Awaken.

In this instance, you must be playing a character class that requires Succession first.

I'm not sure succession is actually a prerequisite for Maegu awakening, or for any other character. It is just that most of us had to wait a long, long, long, long time for her awakening, and so did succession anyway (same with Woosa), and for most older characters succession was originally the only choice. I think the only requirement for either advance is to reach lvl 56.

To answer the OP question, the invite to awakening is by quest (as always). Unfortunately I can't remember whether that is a Black Spirit initiated quest or if it appears in the character's quest queue. I believe, though I don't entirely trust my memory, the quest is called 'Newfound Power'. Check all your quest queues, or wait for more detail :)

I just checked... the BDO Codex says it is a Black Spirit quest...

Aaaaarrgh! Scrub what I said at the end of my previous. That comes after awakening. You may find the right quest from "[Event] Your Time to Shine" by talking to Alustin in Velia. Hopefully you can see that in your quest queue, or maybe by speaking with Black Spirit.

Sorry for the mislead.

At the risk of getting myself in deeper here, I just thought of something else. I assumed, like everyone else seems to have done, that you were looking for how to do awakening. But maybe you have already done the awakening quests and are not sure how to switch. If that is the case, let us know.
