Money Requirement = No
once you get to level 57 the leveling itself slows down without exp scrolls and other buffs.
This is separate to all the life skills you can also level which feel fairly realistic to level time wise.
Ill spend money on clothes, pets and more aesthetically pleasing items, i dont really feel the need to spend money in order to speed up my character leveling.
100 hours in and im just in the second phase of LotML, I keep getting side tracked with the immense amount of stuff you can do.
the in game chat community is also very helpful.
The game IMO is insanely generous to new players / accounts. aside from all the free high level items and scrolls. I have a mythic and dream horse and multiple free pets and faeries that are second best or the best tier all free.
Its a massive RPG grindy sand box. Do what ever you want.
It fits my game wants / needs that FFonline, ESO, WOW, ect... dont meet.
Let me break it down for you; FFXIV FANBOY TRIGGER WARNING
The irony of the "P2W" in this game is the game basically gives you virtually all the essential "P2W" stuff for free by just playing and even if you whale out on this game, you'll still end up spending less than if you stayed subbed on a heavily timegated game like FFXIV or WoW. I have pretty much whaled out on every important cash shop purchase and big skin release since beta and even bought the biggest game bundle, max slots of all kinds, all unique pets at T5 + hedgehog (I bought this game twice), all the $$$ QoL stuff, and I've spent a grand total of 350 USD approx on this game (coupons and sales go brrr) which includes the cost of the big bundle. I never buy VPs because the game gives them out for free and then pauses their timers when you are offline. A 14 day VP will last me for more than a month. The game showers you in free pets, slots, costumes, furnishings, etc just for playing.
Meanwhile I've spent almost 900 USD staying subbed and up to date on FFXIV (not including mogstation purchases except for additional retainers so I can list more stuff on MB. Gotta love the $2/mo retainer dues. It's just like TESO's trade guild dues but with irl money lol). The math is simple; Xpac cost + (Sub fee * months played) = FFXIV becomes more expensive than BDO after 18 months FOR A CASHSHOP WHALE such as myself and unlike BDO, FFXIV doesn't pause your sub while you are offline and it forces you to waste your sub by locking content behind gear checks which can only be met through weekly gear resets. Or you could just message one of the RMT spammers and buy an HQ crafted set from someone and bypass that altogether. Makes you wonder what game is ACTUALLY P2W while you sit through the quarterly cycles of the 45 dollar DLC being obfuscated as a "patch"
Don't let the P2W turn you off from this game. This game is actually more consumer friendly than Warframe from a finniancial PoV. They both have a very similar business model, only BDO doesn't wait for you to go on a 6 month hiatus to give you a coupon.
Disclaimer: I don't hate FFXIV. I just think it's funny how people don't realize they are actually spending more on one thing and give another thing shade for being "too expensive" because it simply doesn't obfuscate its pricing through deceptive gameplay mechanics such as time-gating which while BDO does indeed have, you're not wasting your sub by not logging in and therefore do not get punished for breaks.
