Player Driven Economy?
Does Black Desert Online have a player-driven economy like EVE Online?

I'm contemplating whether to start playing this game, and active trading is one of the most important things to me in MMOs.

yes and no... market generally set a price range limit you can go up and down depending on how you feel, mostly being controlled by the system so no one will ever put a ridiculous price that would ruin the whole economy

no prices have max and min prices most of the things will be sold to npc's

@Sajin Ryuu that's not true at all. They do have min and max prices but they can change. You don't sell to NPC's bc most things have better value on the market

How important is money in BDO? Does it become less valuable as you level up and run out of things to buy? In other words, what's the state of the in-game economy?

it's really important until you've basically done everything and have every upgrade and are "finished" as much as you can be. which will take years
The market is what keeps me engaged. BDO could be aptly called "Spreadsheets in High Heels".

There is no player to player trading, so everything that isn't trash can be sold on the market. There are sinks for many of the life skills with Imperial Vendors which will buy materials at given price that drives much of the life skill market.

No player to player trading is atrocius.

Awesome. While the lack of player-to-player trading is disappointing, it sounds like BDO has a thriving in-game economy and that's exactly what I'm looking for.

I think I'll give it a try then. My only question is does it matter what server you choose when you first start? Or are you able to change servers whenever you want?

The whole game is based around your income.
Either saving for your upgrade or gambling it away each week xD

Stay away from servers that have a * sun symbol next to them. They are high level high gear score levels that would insta-kill newer players.
Only Seasonal characters can play on seasonal servers. Seasonal players will turn into normal players at the end of the season, so you lose nothing. But you have gained all of the extra benefits being on the seasonal server.
Olvia servers are for new players that have not logged in 30 days in BDO yet. Once you have logged in 30 days, you can no longer log into Olvia servers.
Stay off of server number 1 on all servers except Seasonal and Olvia. Those servers are where the Node Wars happen and you can get caught in the middle of a war you didn't intend to be in.
You can change servers ever 10 minutes.

Don't be in a rush. Breath, enjoy, and have fun. 😊

Silver is always valuable in BDO, because almost everything is tradable. If you have around a trillion silver, you basically have end-game gear regardless how you got it.

Unlike eve, though, the market is a bit more heavily regulated by the devs, and to be in a position to exploit it you often need to have already put in 100s or 1000s of hours grinding a skill up to a level that you can convert A to B profitably. It's in general very tough to find those market gaps that will make you money immediately, but stupidly obvious opportunities to double your money are not infrequent (like when they do events spamming accessory boxes, buy accessories, then wait a month).

I've had a few times I've made 50+bil in a short space of time predicting the market (cron meals post oasis was one), but it's not really a game you can sit staring at the market for hours just making money. Enhancing is also very market-centric, but has a risky RNG element to it. You will, ultimately, have to grind a lot whatever you choose to do. In general, BDO has a relatively healthy and well-thought-through economy, but the consequence of that is there are very limited get-rich-quick exploit opportunities.
