Both classes are not my main, but I have PvE'd with both.
I have not played the Awaken Ranger since the latest update by PA (Pearl Abyss), but I do prefer the Succession Ranger over Awaken.
The advantage of the Awaken over Succession is Mobility.
The problem with the Ranger is, until you unlock ALL of its skills except weight, the keyboard commands are make your fingers feel like it is playing a Milton Bradley Hasbro Twister game.
After you open up all the skills shortcut keyboard commands open to use instead of the regular commands.
I prefer the Awaken Dark Knight over Succession. The Awaken DK has way better Mobility.
The Succession DK does way more damage, but feels way too slow and sluggish. The Awaken DK can zip along. But a disadvantage of the Awaken DK is some of the AoE skills don't necessarily cover the AoE area it shows it covers. There are small holes within it.
In order to understand either class, one needs to fully get the keyboard commands down until they become automatic hand muscle memory.
