Is there any particular reason why most classes are gender locked?

i suggest you should just play a woman in the witcher
there is lore in the game about the characters, a story, your not playing a blank slate, its not that kind of rpg
its the "your playing a certain character" kind of rpg like the witcher instead of skyrim

Some are classes which have male/female options, others are individual people which are specifically gender locked. It's often been compared to Vindictus, but Vindictus only uses individuals, which means it's specifically gender locked accordingly.

Nova isn't a class, she's a person. It's blatantly stated in Nova's backstory and quickly gave it away that "Nova" wasn't going to be a class, in fact she's Calpheon Royalty and the last heir of her bloodline and the story is slightly altered along with dialogue mentioning her origin as well as talking about her amnesia.

Dark Knight is implied to be a person as her lore states she's the daughter of Sylvia. But I don't know much about her since I don't play her, same goes for the Archer who's lore implies he's the son of Sylvia. For all I know his name is actually Archer, again I don't play him so I know just as much about him as I do the Dark Knight.

Hashashin might be what he's known as, I'm not familiar at all with him, I only just recently came back to BDO because of Nova and didn't even know Hashashin was also a new character.

Valkyrie I'm guessing is the female variant of the Warrior or she could be an individual.

Kunoichi and Ninja however are classes, female ninja were known as "Kunoichi". Also Ninja and Kunoichi have different Awakening weapons as well as Ranger and Archer which gives you reason to play one or the other though Ranger and Archer have different playstyles even though both are ranged.

But to my knowledge, Witch/Wizard, Striker/Mystic, Musa/Maehwa all use the same weapons both regular and Awakening but with different names.

Vindictus is the same thing except not one of the characters are 'classes'. Each one is a person and every single individual has their own lore, but people have still asked why they're gender locked before even going into the lore.

Don't take my word for it, I'm not a BDO Weeb. I just play it cause I like the combat system, playing a male or female doesn't matter as much to me, if the gameplay isn't fun then it's not worth my time.

Now if you wanna talk about Legend of Zelda lore. Well I'm the guy to talk to.

Well, that a horrible way of reasoning it, because it only locks options rather than provide them.
Skyrim, the king of role playing, clearly shows that a player should be given freedom who to play as.
But, eh, maybe korean culture and view towards gaming is not based on "create what you want", but instead based on "here, play this exactly as we want you to". Different ideal, i guess.

Well, Devs could have created character with lore alternative between male and female, thus still having characters with their own lore and play options for those who want their avatar reflect what they want to play as.

Me: "I want play as a male person with huge sword and black magic".
Devs: "ok, here is a female version of that, you can't play male version of that".
You: "if you don't wanna play as a female, then you are limiting yourself and have inferiority complex".

Because we are playing charakters not ''classes'' even tho everyone's saying classes
