harpoon fishing even working?

like seriously, what the actual F is going on with that entire mechanic?!
using 10+ video guides that all tell you where to go and how the minigame works and blabla but after over 3 hours at sea travelling the entire way from velia to loml i haven't found a single damned spot where even 1 fish could be caught with it and i tried hundreds...

like seriously, looking at the cash shop the devs really seem to demand the payment of gods yet the game itself is in such a horrible state where literally none of the interesting sounding features work as intended

what ship was you on? You can only harpoon fish from fishing boats or cogs any ship with cannons can not be used :)

well, i was on a fishing boat, using (or well, trying to use) a thick harpoon and my fishing mastery is at 708 so +2 harpoon price fish whatever.

Okay if you was on a fishing boat and your mastery is above 700 it should be working :)

whats actually happening when you try to harpoon fish or not happening lol :)

well, my character pulls out the crossbow(harpoon) just fine, then it says to press space which i do and then it just sits there "searching for fish" forever, no durability taken from the harpoon what-so-ever and since guides all say to move if that happens i constantly moved around with my boat but never found a spot where that actually worked in over 4 hours before i quite doing that broken

oh okay it usually does that when the water is not deep enough :)
The places to fish with harpoons usually have lots of shoals of visible fish and a few big fish swimming around, you can see them under the water from the boat, sounds like something has bugged out for you, have you tried different harpoons just in case the one you are using has decided to be an ass lol :)

well, about those fishes, i tried spots where i saw those swarms of fishes and i tried the middle of the damned ocean, like literally the middle of it since during the 4 hours i was at it i moved all the way from velia to loml.
as for the different harpoons, not really since i just wanted to give it a try today to see if it's worth it and so i only started with a single thick harpoon.

but honestly, at this point i simply gave up on harpooning and even start losing interest in the game in general because so much stuff is buggy as hell, simply not working, totally messed up balance wise or just so absurdly paywalled that it isn't even funny anymore...

what mastery rank are you?
you need atleast professional fishing to be able to harpoon
(I guess you are since you could equip it?)
maybe the new system that changes your stance (combat/fishing/harpoon) is making it seem like you are harpooning but in reality you are just standing there

are you giving it enough time?
depending on the spot it might take a minute or 2 before you need to press space again to start the mini game

and are you sure...you are on a fishing boat or an epheria cog?
it does not work when you are on a sailboat and up

i was on a fishing boat that i built myself...
my mastery is 708 and i'm master rank 7...
i am definitely using it since i can't walk around anymore after pressing space for the first time plus there's a big fat "seaching for fish" message at the top of the screen...
i'd say 10+ minutes that i waited in some spots while reading/watching guides on the sides should be plenty of time as well...
the prompt to press space again and start the minigame never happened, no matter where in the ocean i was, with tons of fish swarming around my boat or not and no matter how long i was "searching for fish"...
and just for reference, even after doing that for about 4 hours or more my harpoon is still at 40/40 durability...

Ermmm strange I think something is bugged with harpoon fishing,
about 90'ish mins ago i stopped harpoon fishing to go eat. been trying last 20 mins to harpoon fish and the same as Op the mini game is not starting anymore, so somethings borked for me also now :(

what caused it?
doing fishing 1st :) when i load into game if i select fishing stance 1st and do some fishing and then switch to harpoon fishing, the harpoon mini game don't start and does nothing exiting the game and loading back in then selecting harpoon stance without doing any fishing and the harpoon works as it should :)

So this is a bug where the toon is getting stuck in fishing stance when you are switching to harpoon stance :)

hmm, that thing with the fishing rod wasn't exactly the cause or at least doesn't seems like it since today i actually gave it another try, harpooning worked fine, then AFK fished for a few hours and harpooned a couple times after so yea, really no clue what was wrong with it the first time i tried it, but for now it seems to work despite me doing literally the exact same as before =D

The servers play up from time to time and you get days where things just don't work as they are meant, and the next day everything is fine again :)

The other day i was harpooning and all i did was switch to auto fishing for about 45 mins whilst i ate my food, then switched back to harpoon fishing and it was bugged out, exiting the game and logging back in sorted it, as long as i selected harpoon fishing 1st :)
Yesterday it was fine all day could switch between fishing and harpooning no issue, today i haven't logged in yet lol
the game has these weird quirks that creates "in certain circumstances Bugs" in other words it will bug for so many players but not everyone :)

pfft, yea, just spent 3 hours at the bottom of a damned well 2 days ago just because of someone telling me you should be able to move from loml to velia that way, first i got stuck on the boards sealing it then after relogging i glitched through the boards and ended up being trapped below sea level, so the "escape" buttion didn'Ät do anything, the travelers map didn't do either because "impossible to use underwater" (the well was dry/empty)
in the end the only thing that actually helped was a guild teleport after my guild leader logged in and heard the story so far with that attempt being the last straw before quitting the game for good...

like seriously, they had 10 years to sort out stuff like that, why the F does it still feel like testing an alpha version then =/
