New anti cheat.. Linux?
Seen there was a move to easy anti cheat, Does this now mean BDO can run on linux? or is it another Windows only software?

BDO is only available for Windows.

Yes but it's possible now to enable Linux support by enabling Wine/Proton support in Easy Anti-Cheat. You don't need to port the game, just enable Wine/Proton support in EAC.

I'd expect some errors if you run it that way but if the anti cheat software doesn't have a problem you might be able to tweak linux so it can run bdo or any window's game.

Hate to be that guy, BUT how about now with the changes just today???

Yes, BDO will soon be able to run on Linux, if the developers chose too. They now have the tools to make it work on Linux for anti-cheat. Making the rest of it work will be a different story.

Easy cheat will also be supported in Wine, and that may end up the way to get it to run in Linux. I really don't have much faith in these developers to pull off a Linux port if their graphics engine doesn't support it out of the box. Not sure what they used. If they home grew it, it may never run on LInux.

I hope they do though. This is one of two games I play that keep me dual booting Winblows.

AFAIK the biggest problem was just AntiCheat related. And since they switched to EAC and now Epic officially says they support Linux and Mac. They should just flip the switch in EAC.

The other things are probably solvable. Most games are not officially supported but playable in Linux.

Is it a graphical problem? I've been able to boot BDO to the start screen with proton but got booted each time i tried to leave it (assumed it was the anti cheat but now you got me wondering)

Doesn't change the fact that BDO wasn't made to run on Linux and even if you could get it to run, it could run worse on the same system specs on Linux than Windows. Game already runs pretty poorly on some system configurations as it is.

Not asking for a port, just asking for Proton compatibility with EAC to be enabled. The graphics can largely be handled just fine by way of DXVK.

Yes, it *could* run worse. It *could* also be such a marginal drop in performance that it wouldn't really be worth noting. It *could* just flat out crash due to unforeseen complications. Or it *could* work even better. Many things *could* happen.

Funny thing. It can even run better because I could use AMDs FidelityFX SuperResolution thanks to ProtonGE on not officially supported games. Well ok the pop-in isn't going away xD

No precious development time for content needs to go somewhere else. We would be a few more people able (probably) to run the game. And who knows maybe some day more people can play on more platforms. Imagine having the option.

tired or dual boot i love BDO i wish they just tick the box for linux support on EAC at least ... i'll figured out the rest to get it working good lol. Can't test anything if the game doesn't launch due to anti cheat

Please consider checking the checkbox if you update the SDK nonetheless

I would love to get back to BDO and bring my friends finally into it with me, also there are other threads about this and Linux so demand seems to be there and IF you update the EAC SDK it would at least be in theory no downside or extra work exept for one checkbox:

+1 for Linux. I saw it was on sale today and almost added it to my cart, but I checked here first for Linux compatibility. All Proton reports so far are that it's borked.

Guess it's back to No Man's Sky for me. Coincidentally, it also "is only available for Windows" in that regard, which isn't the relevant complication.
