Black Desert

Black Desert

Is this actually fun?
Other than the monotonous and perpetual grinding, does this game offer any enjoyable experiences?

I don't like grinding and do as little of it as possible. It means that I won't make as much silver per month as most people who grind, but it means I have more fun as well.

BDO, like any good MMORPG, is also an exploration game in which you look for areas that are tougher than you can handle, get your butt kicked, get stronger and then return for revenge.

This is how I play it, and I wouldn't play it any other way.

I absolutely do NOT under any circumstances follow any of the guides for how to make silver quickly. Those guides are also instructions on how to bore yourself to death.

It's a very difficult question to answer. I just play the game for fun, but then you can tell if you look at my gear! Decent stuff in this game requires a shed-load of grinding.
It depends on what you call fun. I think the life skills have a lot of RP value. Some people think it is boring AF and other people its all they want to do. You don't need to grind, but honestly the grind is fun in this game because the combat is good. If you don't like the combat or the life skills or just exploration of the map, there isn't anything left to grab you.

If grinding isn't your thing (you're basically being forced to), I suggest you to find other games.

yes but it would be good if it was a single player offline game.

depends what fun is. If you like those cookie clicker idles you might actually not mind grinding on this. If you like exploration but it doesn't tie in with silver or grinding, do it anyway. Statistically you aren't going to be the best player either, and there's thousands of that very best build running around out there It's almost like you're unique and having fun NOT doing the meta. But THAT itself CAN be fun for some people too etc.

EDIT: Used "anyway" too much, synonimized the paragraph.

This game is wicked fun. There are so many things to do like farming, trading, fishing and boating. I really love this game the only problem for me is that to play this you need a good internet connection to play this game. I don't think that there are any single-player offline modes to play. If I had an internet connection this thing would be on believe me.
I personally believe BDO in it's current iteration is actually fun. As a MMO I'll rate BDO currently my 2nd most favorite MMO behind GW2 in 1st.

BDO's combat is very fun.

BDO has gear capped PvP activities that most of the BDO's PvP population engage in.

BDO has pretty nice visuals.

The only reason why BDO is not my number one MMO is because of it's extremely bias and unfair gear progression. Because in BDO it is common for some people to fail 90% success chance 5 or more times in a row with the accessories being destroyed. While some other people can just one tap their way to greatness with a shown 5% or less success rate on. Then have the nerve to tell you that you are bad at the game because you are not chosen to be lucky like they are. But I digress.

All and all BDO is a fun game long as you are not trying to get to endgame PvE or PvP. Unless you want to spend tens and tens of thousands of USDs to do so. Again, BDO is a fun game and I'll will continue to play it for low to mid tier PvE, and capped PvP gear content.

Leveling is fun till you reach 58 and then it gets really grindy and boring.

First time player weighing in... OK I tried it for 5 hours a few years ago lol... But yeah Ive never been a big fan of MMORPG but I think with how they have the season character boost and all the things they give you/make super easy to obtain from the start has really made it more enjoyable and allows someone to do as they please instead of strictly following the grind path. With that said its still massively over whelming with trying to figure everything out even though they do a pretty good job explaining things, just need to know where to look for said info....... Use reshade with clarity and luma sharpening(or whatever sharping shader you prefer). Really helps with some of the blurry low res textures and draw distance, also trun down gamma as much as you can and use amd/nvidia/monitor to increase the brightness, helps with the over the top bloom and Auto exposure that for some reason they dont allow you to adjust. These two things have helped make it more enjoyable. But like the comment above, Im worried about how things go once you graduate

I enjoy shutting my brain off from time to time and grinding in games. For me, it's fun because there are a lot of variations of the grind.

You CAN play this, solely focusing on the combat, but you'll eventually hit a point where you have to gamble/grind to get better.

Long story short, don't get this if you don't like grinding.

The main thing is what do you enjoy?

One has to be more actively searching for friends in BDO than other MMO's.
If that is what you enjoy.
There's no hangout spot where other players go to just chit-chat, unless you've actively sought out and found those friends.
There are a few party based dungeons, but that is not the main focus in BDO.
World bosses are not long fight sessions.
In fact they are quite short.
However, the Mutant Ogre and Troll Bosses do require 20 plus players and they will take about 30 to 50 minutes to take down.

You can quest to level 61 quite easily.
A lot of the quests are kill quests, but they are not endless grind sessions.

Most players that don't care for grinding primarily life skill.

I like BDO a lot and have put a lot of hours into it.
But if you are looking for something like FFXIV, ESO, GW2, etc.... then BDO will not be the game for you.
I suppose I'm after something calming that allows me to unwind while I read, listen to music, and so forth.

I know you wrote you don't want endless grinding, but I know of a few players that endless grind in areas that are chill to them.
They either listen to their audio books or play their own music while zoning out and grinding.
It's pretty easy to do once you get a good grasp of your preferred class and the area you like grinding in the best. 😊

However, as mention previously, there are lots of quests in BDO.
One of the Titles you can get is 30K.
Meaning you've completed 30,000 quests. 😊
