PKing is indeed sometimes an issue with BDO. I get attacked as often as three time a week. But the people who attack me in general do not trash talk. So usually if I die to a PK, if they were civil and did a good job, I send a whisper telling them well done and ask them what character class they were using. I get some neat information sometimes this way.
So yes, the game has forced PVP, and it can be hard to avoid. But I still like the game enough to have played it well over 14000 hours over several years even though I do not enjoy PVP.
If I had stopped at level 49 most of what I like about BDO would never have been introduced to me.
Tried LSing but I doubt I have nerves for it (beer, beer..have another beer? BEER), Combat will be main aspect and questing.
EDIT: also I always choose server which says "What is Elvia realm"..not node wars or marked specifically PVP..I guess there is no other choices? I do not go back to olivia (new/returnee player)
Exceptions are if a PK kills you in the ocean you might not get to where you wanted in time, or if you're a life skiller doing trade deliveries you can lose trade goods.
But if you're a PVM character, being PKed simply takes some of your time. Sometimes your horse might die to a PK, especially if you were riding her when you got killed, but you can easily resurrect your horse at a stable master if she died.
In general, if I die to a PK, I resurrect at the closest safe zone (without using elion tears because there's no death penalty hence no need to expend one). And then I return to what I was doing.
Some people switch servers to avoid the PKs, but I rarely do that. And when I mentioned I get attacked by as many as three PKs a week, that's keeping in mind I play every day sometimes hours a day, so 99% of the time is still uneventful.
The most common places I'm attacked is at world boss spawns. Often if you show up fifteen minutes before a world boss or if you linger after it a PK in powerful gear shows up and slaughters you and sometimes slaughters everyone. A couple of days ago I got slaughtered twice by a PK after Kutum on a character who had 409 DP and 5600ish hit points. I died almost instantly to the PK, so I'm guessing the PK had end game gear (of which I'm not even close). But I sent the PK a well done whisper, and the PK replied with a thank you.

After the world boss Kutum died I noticed there was a PK chasing other players around, but I also noticed one of the players was fighting back. I'm not a PVPer, but I decided to help out. I still got slaughtered *laughs* but it was not a painful experience.
1. Some pets have a skill called "Hostility Detection" which is useful to have enabled so that negative karma players shine with red beams warning you when they're nearby. You can see that effect in the above film.
2. You'll notice I did not use Elion Tears to mitigate death penalty. That's because there's no penalty to dying in PVP unless you're negative karma.
3. I had two choices in resurrection points. Closest safe area put me back in the general vicinity (which also exposed me to being killed again). Nearest town (which I selected on the second death) took me far away to a safe zone where I was safe from further attacks.
4. I have a Celestial Horn. This is an object which can be used to summon a horse from any distance to you. It's tremendously useful. They've given a few away free over the years, but if you ever do decide to buy something in BDO (preferably when it's onsale), I consider the Celestial Horn one of the games most useful items. If you don't have one, however, you can use a stable keeper to summon your horse to you. Just go to a stable keeper and have it call your horse.
5. My horse had 57 thousand hit points, and you can see the PK did 55000 to her. Most horses don't have that many hit points and would have died. Either way, that's a lot of health to heal on a horse, so I went to the stable keeper and had him heal my horse.
6. Instead of helping to fight back against the PK, I could have switched to Elvia zone. In the top right of your GUI is a button for switching to Elvia. It's what most people who want to avoid PKs do after world boss fights. PKs are usually in the normal lands, so this is a good way to hide from PKs while you travel (though I did not do that).
7. I had 409 DP and was nearly instantly slaughtered. The PK was way more powerful than me, plus the PK was practiced in PVP which I am not. My pride is not hurt in such deaths, so it really is not a painful experience.
It would be painful to have your ship destroyed by PK pirates on the way to Vell, but it's not painful to die when I was just going to head home.
In summary, I could have avoided these PK deaths a few ways. I could have switched to Elvia. I could have gone further away before trying to set my auto path to Calpheon. And I could have simply run away when I saw the PK first attacking.
PKs are common in BDO, but BDO is still a great game.
Btw why ppl like to do pvp near world boss? none can solo it..or is it just lure for lowlies to come and killer has his fun..I c no other reasons.
1. When the world boss arrives, all PVP on the server is disabled for the duration of the boss fight. Thus many PKs like to attack before the boss arrives so that if things go badly they just have to survive long enough for PVP to get turned off.
2. Most people take "boss alts" to the world bosses. These are characters with mediocre gear and no crystals, usually the bottom of 61st level. Dying to a world boss does have a death penalty, and by using dedicated boss alts, you can attend the boss fight without fear of losing crystals or XP.
That this PK attacked after Kutum instead of before speaks to the confidence of the PK. I usually use boss alts, but in this case I was on one of my main characters and thus had enough gear to (wrongly) think I could help out :)
If you end up joining a large guild (I'm not in one), you can get a chance to practice PVP with other friendly people. This helps a LOT to getting good in PVP in BDO (once your gear is up to decent levels where you have a chance of harming well geared people). Gear matters the most, but practice is essential (something I largely lack other than being very good at dying).
Lifeskill alts I understand, they stay put and tend example garden.
The main reasons for using world boss alts is it saves you time having to travel around the map for what is often an only five minute fight (though longer if it's the super version of the boss, like Stormbringer, Nightmare, Thundercloud, Blood, etc.).
I keep boss alts parked at Nouver, Kzarka and Kutum because they're across the map from where I usually am (Calpheon). Karanda is only a five minute journey, so for Karanda I usually just ride from Calpheon instead of parking a character there.
Boss alts are not mandatory. You probably shouldn't worry about them until you're fully built up on your main one or two characters. Then, at that point, you can decide if you want to park dedicated boss alts across the map.
On side note, I noticed above you asked about better loot and harder monsters. Absolutely as you go up in levels and gear scores you run into much harder monsters which don't drop in one hit and which give much better loot :)
I did an hour at Saunil Camp in Elvia a few minutes ago, and the following film is a couple of short samples from that for reference.
https://youtu.be/gGydy5sBsyE
BDO has many zones designed for lower level characters. For instance, the Saunil Camp on the normal lands is designed for levels 40 to 44. But if you click that button to switch to Elvia, that normal zone suddenly becomes much harder and designed for maybe 280+ AP (it says 270+, but I disagree with that) and 360+ DP (it says 330+, but I heartily disagree with that).
So Elvia is sort of like an alternate BDO where most of the normal NPCs and monsters are removed, and in its place are many zones with lots more difficulty and (in my opinion) fun.
The degree of difficulty in the various Elvia zones varies. For instance, some of the zones are too easy for me now, but the other day I did an hour at Elvia Giants Post and got one shot killed by one of the red event bosses. So for me, the Saunil Camp is a perfect match, and if I manage to get significantly better gear than some of the other zones will becoe perfect matches instead.
I mentioned that at world bosses people often switch to Elvia to hide from PKs, and that works because where the world bosses spawn there are no monsters in Elvia. So you switch to an empty zone where you can travel to safety unseen by anyone in the normal lands.
So elvia is just difficulty change, I bet loot scales too. I have seen that I get xp even low level mobs and quests, so not hurry in Elvia yet ..hell gearing is a bit hazy for me still, gonna google more about it when time about Manri realm also that was news for me.
Levelled at 45+ in ?33+? (forest N from near Dias farm) area yesterday to 49. I guess there is no XP peanlty for low level missions.
