Fishing is also designed to be an entirely hands-off task if you want it to be.
So yeah, the game is designed to encourage you to leave it on at all times.
I simply lost my job several years ago (disability) and have played BDO every day since I bought the game many years ago.
I'm probably phasing BDO out now (I've hardly played the last few weeks), but I haven't quit yet. I'll see how the next few weeks go with regard to gear progression. If I can upgrade to tougher areas I'll probably stay with BDO (area's I've been trying to get strong enough to do for years but have failed).
But no, my 14k hours are legitimate playtime and mostly attended spread out over several years.
I have several ALT Characters and two that I main.
My two mains are polar opposites of each other.
One is my grinder and the other is my life skiller.
I do not get tired of BDO because when I tire of grinding I switch to my life skill character.
When I tire of my life skilling I go back to my grinding character.
That way I don't get bored or burn myself out.
If you're going to be a new player, you'll need to figure out what class or classes you like best by playing them for many hours or through several quests.
I'd advise trying the trial characters, but if you're like me the trial ones don't give me the real feel of the class. Hence why I have a lot of ALT's until I settled on my two mains. 😊
2. Game features rewards, that require players to stay online/logged in for a certain amount of time.
3. Energy recovers faster, if you're online.
And that's just 3 reasons, there's plenty more.
