Vast Amount of Hours
I have this game on my wishlist somehow and it's on sale, so i went to check out reviews. Seeing reviews from players with 18,000 or 27,000 hours put into the game. Do people leave the game running all day while they're out, is there some benefit to doing that? It can't be real.

Yeah, you regen energy, used for stuff like gathering, faster when you're online. Furthermore, your passive workers will only complete one work cycle while you're offline, while they'll continuously run while you're online.

Fishing is also designed to be an entirely hands-off task if you want it to be.

So yeah, the game is designed to encourage you to leave it on at all times.

Got it, thanks for the info. Interesting way to convince people to stay logged in and affect all kinds of stat numbers. I thought it had to be something like that, because there's no game interesting enough to elicit those kinds of gameplay hours. (And no one with that much time!)

As someone with nearly 14000 hours in game, I do not keep the game running in general. When I work horse training or the like, yes, I leave my character working the skill or the mount while I play other games, but that's a tiny fraction of my 14000 hours (maybe a few hundred hours).

I simply lost my job several years ago (disability) and have played BDO every day since I bought the game many years ago.

I'm probably phasing BDO out now (I've hardly played the last few weeks), but I haven't quit yet. I'll see how the next few weeks go with regard to gear progression. If I can upgrade to tougher areas I'll probably stay with BDO (area's I've been trying to get strong enough to do for years but have failed).

But no, my 14k hours are legitimate playtime and mostly attended spread out over several years.

I'm at work afk fishing. I'm wondering if they're farming all this power?

Cool, thank you for your perspective. I've never played a game for that long, and there are very few games that hold my attention for an extended period of time. I can't imagine being interested enough to put that many hours in. Wondering if I should buy it and check it out if people like it that much, to put that amount of time into it.

I've only been playing for a little over 3K hours.
I have several ALT Characters and two that I main.
My two mains are polar opposites of each other.
One is my grinder and the other is my life skiller.
I do not get tired of BDO because when I tire of grinding I switch to my life skill character.
When I tire of my life skilling I go back to my grinding character.
That way I don't get bored or burn myself out.

If you're going to be a new player, you'll need to figure out what class or classes you like best by playing them for many hours or through several quests.
I'd advise trying the trial characters, but if you're like me the trial ones don't give me the real feel of the class. Hence why I have a lot of ALT's until I settled on my two mains. 😊

Do you have to play using Steam? You could go to playblackdesert.com (the game's website root domain) and choose the offer of a free trial, rather than pay Steam and hope you can get the game working and decide if you like it inside 2 hours. You need to create a Pearl Abyss account whichever source you go with.

1. Can't get anywhere in this game, in a short amount of time.
2. Game features rewards, that require players to stay online/logged in for a certain amount of time.
3. Energy recovers faster, if you're online.

And that's just 3 reasons, there's plenty more.
