How P2W is this game?
The game looks promising and I've been looking for a newer MMORPG to play. It seems like a lot /or 95% of the newer titles in this genre are super microtransaction heavy. I've heard this game is a P2W title, but at what extent?

It’s pay for convenience, such as pets that pick up loot for more effective grind sessions, a tent that has repair and other mechanic to make life easier and outfits that give very miniscual buff but useful. Outfits can be melted for items that prevent you from losing enchantment but rng is rng it doesn’t mean you will get the enchantment. You don’t swipe a credit/debit card and purchase op weapons/armor

you really don't need to pay any money that's ridiculous 15$/m; just grind to level 60 get 500 gs w/o paying and go to olvia servers and kill noobs, that'll give you at least a thousand hours of gameplay before you get bored, 1000 hours of gameplay for 10 dollars imo is worth it

this game is Pay might win... you can pay and still not win lmao..
It really depend how much you put.

If you just put 15$ a month, with a premium costume & 2 pets. You won't see much gain out of it nor be able to beat a lucky smart player that only paid for the base game. That's being peasant in a nutshell.

Pay2win require 200$ a month to see the real definition of pay2win in BDO.

Need artisant memory? swipe card
Need to swim faster? swipe card
Need to gain horse XP faster? swipe card
Need to be #1 house? swipe card
Need maids? swipe card
Need 50% XP increase? swipe card
Need energy point? swipe card
Need more inventory space? swipe card
Need pets? swipe card
Need etc? swipe card

Melting a premium costume give you around ~250 cron stone which is only 30$ US. If you want to safely enhance a crecsent ring from TET to PEN, only 6000 cron stone is needed. No problem... Just swipe card.

Lol, I don't think I could handle being a ♥♥♥♥ for 1000 hours.

Than you fail the PEN attempt, ez drop to Tri crescent, ez waste of cronestones, ez uninstall, ez go commit.
The pay2win route may kind of look completely unrealistic from planet earth point of view, but yeah it's doable.
Hi all to what Azrub say and the most members here " UNINSTALL " spent your money on something else !

True and I'm fine with it, this game is my favourite mmo ever and I want to play it for lots of years. This game is huge and I don't mind if someone just throws away thousands of euros/dollars uselessly.
Plus we got a lot of 50fs from events and they introduced valk's cry, thanks to those I finally managed to push my gear to Tet. No cronestones, no artisan memory.

My point of view is if you really enjoy playing the game, just support the developers and buy 5x pets (actually less because they give some pets for free), that's what you really need to not waste time grinding.
If you just don't like to grind or play the game, quit. Simple.
Catching up to softcap players is possible with efforts, you just have to play the game efficiently.
I play it efficiently , becourse I uninstalled :steamhappy:

Reaching softcap in late 2018 isnt getting you anywhere in this game anymore. Softcap is the easy part and the real grind starts after that.
It's p2w in every context. You can sell RM items (= resources of 30-60 hours monster farming in some minutes). You have to invest less in game resources (and time) in enchant-repair. You can buy many "smalL" advantages: all content has RM "buff".

Do we find worst p2w games in Korea? YES. Do we play worst p2w games in EU/NA? Maybe. But BDO is very "competitive" in "pay2convenience" (=p2w) now...

Every MMO has this in their cash shop, especially if that MMO has some kind of enchant/repair system tied to gear. I can buy a WoW token and sell it for 200k gold per token and buy whatever I want from the Auction House. I can literally sell my gems on the marketplace in GW2 for in-game currency and again, buy whatever gear I want from the marketplace. I'm not defending BDO's cash shop P2W but it's hard to scrutinize it when other MMOs have done it longer (Costumes only reached 100m per costume not too long ago, before it was never very profitable to sell costumes for 35m)

"Other games" is not argument. That will not make BDO "Not p2w". That is bad excuse. If you pay you get 4-8 hours/day/week farming resources directly from cash shop-in game trades. (=50-60 hours instant income/week). +static buffs, functions, extra items, 1/3 cost in critical point (enchant gear). BDO is p2w. Nothing to say. You can't save it. It's not a bad game, just it's not "fair play" and publishers are liars.

Did you even read my post? It's not an argument on whether BDO is P2W or not, it's a comparison to other MMO's P2W. Most games nowadays have some sort of microtransaction/cash shop/P2W/head start/early access/limited edition items/DLC that it's really hard to find something where you don't have to pay to enjoy.

Hmmm...
When I started playing I got SEVERAL "7-day value pack" items for free.

Like, enough that I was able to keep playing for.. quite a while without putting in a penny, but still having the rewards of.. well, what i'd call subscription.

I don't think the game would be worth it without the subscription, as the value pack's benefits are something that's ez to take for granted (extra storage, inventory space).

However.. You'll find BDO is mad good fun and you'll probably end up spending money. Not because you have to, but because having 16 extra inventory slots means you can go an extra X minutes per grind run before heading into town, or keep extra tools on hand, blah blah blah.. not stuff you need at all but.. 'enhancements'.

I think, for having 236 hours into it, I spent probably around $60, which is a retail price. And I got 4-5x the amount of playtime out of BDO than I did Fallout 4.

I miss the days when $15/mo was standard for an MMO. I think free to play model, combined with WoW, is why the genre may be dying out.. it spurs questions like this and then sharp criticism of any game that's "pay to win"... something that's easily snap judged, often falsely, and would never have come about if developers hadn't dipped their toes into f2p waters trying to stay competitive with WoW. Real bummer. EX: Is it truly pay to win if you pay for extra inventory space? or is it.. MMO's have subscriptions. players that play for free don't have the full package, but it's nice of developers to allow players to play their game for free..? It's a mentality thing, I think, and varies with what YOU believe and grew up familiar with.

Being rambly.. there's SWG Emulator players that 'donate' a monthly sub. There's Everquest private server players that 'donate' a monthly sub, so on and so forth. For, I think, the older crowd, we are accustomed to it. And WANT to support a fun, well designed MMO.

I'll say that.. you don't have to pay $15/mo to enjoy BDO. You don't have to buy pets that pick up all your ♥♥♥♥ for you ($11 per pet is NUTS!! I paid $20 for a pack of 5 pets).
I played for months without spending any money above the $10 I dropped for the game, and I don't regret paying a monthly subscription for the benefits.. I'll play BDO without a sub, but it's fun so I definitely don't mind diverting some of my budget.

My criticism of BDO and as a warning to you is NOT about "pay to win" but..

If you take a break from BDO and come back, you're going to be REAL confused about what's going on. When you're "in the groove", there's SO many things to DO that your day to day play session will be.. doing.. bunches of stuff! And it's easy to track while you play but.. make sure to write down what it is you were involved in for skills, grinds, blah blah if you take a break. I stopped playing for a few months, and came back. Most of my 'return time' in the past 5-10 hours has been "oh jeez what's this, this, this.... wth was i doing with all these black shards, why do i have so many emblems" yada yada
