Is weapon swap mandatory?
so I'm playing Ninja and just got awakening - might go succ because I honestly despise weapon swap mechanics. However dual katanas is cool af so I was wondering if it was possible to play with just kinda using the awakening weapon. I already struggle with combos because yes so adding awakening weapon and constant swapping is literally like an impossible feat for me atm

The game has started introducing Succession skills in December. They are slowly rolling them out to the various classes. Succession does the opposite of what you want but it does eliminate the weapon swap mechanic. It locks up your Awakening tree and instead boosts your Pre-awakening skills. Kuno/Ninja got their Succession skills around December 24. I've only done the Succession quest-line on my Tamer so far, but I'm pretty sure I got the quest from Black Spirit.

I see, so really the only option is to succession to eliminate the mechanic while staying viable?

You lose a lot (not all) of the awakening skills you would have otherwise got and you don't need to switch to the weapon anymore. I mean, you can do this already by inputting the combo for the awakening weapon skill. It'll instant switch and uses it.

What I'm not sure about is if they're literally removing the ability to switch to the awakening weapon though. None of the classes I've played have got succession yet or aren't 56 so i'm unsure.

how can it even be a problem? some skills automatically change into the awakening form/same the other way around...flowing playstyle and all
maybe some specific pvp combos would require you to tryhard swapping but...that is not something a "new" player should worry all that much about

so far, it is depending on your class. My Lahn has been going full awakening and she is ok. My Maehwa on the other hands have to constantly switching because most of her dmg and cc is still in her main hand. I met a full time pvp ninja player that were rank 4 of the server (seren 4 by the time we met), he said that switching between main hand and awak is mandatory for his class.

I've read ninja with awakening is far superior than one going succession, but that succession is really fun to play. I have a ninja/kuno but I haven't tried it on them yet. Those who I know who have tried it on the classes that have it think it's more of a PVE thing to go Succession and that it doesn't work well in PVP. It's still a new feature to the game and not every class has it yet. People are still figuring out if it's worth going succession or not. Warrior for example, is apparently really amazing in succession in endgame grinding while Ranger apparently isn't good in that same aspect, and zerker in succession downright sucks yet some people still enjoy it. Personal preference and how you want to enjoy the game I guess.

Yes succession removes the weapon swap mechanic and completely eliminates everything from awakening tree. Your absolute skills must be removed as well in order to level certain skills in the succession tree.

So if you do succession you literally can't even switch to the awakening weapon? Because I know you will still equip one for the stats. That's odd. What does that key do then, nothing?

pretty much, depending on the succession I think they add a skill to it but it just revamps some of your current skills and makes them stronger and cooler looking

Yes. The awakening weapon will basically exist for stats. The swap key does nothing because that key exists in the awakening tree but everything in the awakening tree will be blacked out when you choose succession (and vice versa when you are awakened). Succession is its own tab/page of skills that gets added in between your pre-awakening skill tree and awakening skill tree. I know it sounds unusual. It makes sense once you actually play a class in succession. It's a new way to play every class.
Adding an opinion if its worth anything to this convo - I have succession skills maxed out for my Kuno and after 18 months of playing her I haven't had this much fun in a LONG time. I wont go back to awakening. MUCH faster and more enjoyable grinding with succession. LOVING it to the MAX. Hope that future adjustments to Ninja works well for players who are trying succession, cheers

wepon swaping provides a block where you take zero damage on some classes

even if u dont use unawaken for musa example spaming C while dashing gives you a block where u take no damage
