The prices are the same and if I want to buy the PoW stuff I need to put my credit card into their site (do they have PayPall), so if I buy on Steam I get my friends list?
Differences: BDO Website accounts get a few 7 day trial vouchers they can pass out to others when they purchase the game. There is also a system in place to earn free polar bear pets, hedgehog pets, a title, and pearls if their friends hit certain levels. These perks are only for BDO Website accounts. Steam players do not get them.
Also Steam BDO tends to have issues with weekly maintenance. We often have to wait several hours or more to get back into the game because almost on a weekly basis something goes wrong for us. Which is always fun.
Paypal is an option for both Steam and the main BDO Website.
Only real reason to buy Steam is if you cannot use the Original Site´s payment system.
Else it´s only more problems with steam as the fairly incompetent Devs frequently cannot get the Steam version working properly after the weekly fail-patches.
It is downloading right now with 0.33 MiB/s. There is one thing that Steam apparently can do better: download speeds. Usually I get between 8 and 11 MiB/s. Downloaded Hitman today with an average of 11 MiB/s.
But no worries, I'm not in hurry. I'll sleep on it and it will be done.
That might be true, but if I buy it form www.bdo.com, I still don't own the game. Pearl Abyss does and they allow me to play it under their conditions and licensing agreements.
I'll play more to give it a fairer assessment, 7 dayss feels like a lot, but probably isn't for this type of game.
But I would love to see this combat system in a single player RPG with an epic story created by the likes of old school Bioware, with Bethesda levels of environmental story telling and map design and CDPR levels of quality and writing in side quests.
I think I described the perfect (for me) game!
I get it... I'm hooked...
What I need to figure out first if the special more expensive editions are a good bang for your buck or just provide "value", like many of the packs out there, full of useless ♥♥♥♥ presented as having real value.
Traveler's pack is looking useful and worth 15, but explorer not really. Maybe if it had 2 pets...
Then I had the "pleasure" of experiencing the gear upgrade system. I only wasted a few million, but I could easily see me wasting 2 weeks of income on that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible gear-rape of a system.
I rage quit and don't know if I will ever play again.
Moved on to ESO, which has great story, quests and loot, also dungeons, but has horrible combat, dated visuals and a few dated mechanics.
If you ever choose to come back, do not waste your money on it, ever. It's all pay2bet, patience and repetition are the only key to this RNG, not your hard earned money.
That's a new one.
P2B!
Thats why I said you can play with mine. It has ok gear/classes and necessary purchases like weight and pets :)
I mean its great for casual playing but if serious even money cant buy it. You have to play it like nolife 24/7.
In ESO it takes 20 hours to train one point on your horse's skills and you constantly need to research 3 traits and so far they all take 6/12 hours (maybe more later).
But guess what. When I sigh out and come back X hours later, the research/training is done! What a new and innovative idea! AFK tasks where you can close down your PC when you are dealing with a MMO... Pure genius... Sarcasm ends here.
Anyway, I would still recommend the free trial. Those 2 weeks were plain fun for me and the first week was the best. Just don't spend real money or in game money on everything.
