Hunting sucks now!
I don't know why they changed it but hunting now sucks in this game.

All the hunting missions have been disabled.
Butcher knife only yields experience for processing and not hunting.
I can’t use a decent Matchlock without a good hunting skill.
After days of searching I found some missions of hunting on some islands that still allow hunting.
One had their raccoons on it. Dam buggers are fast. Some too fast to hit and even if you do they won’t go down easily.
It’s the only place where a butcher knife will give you experience and it comes like a quest reward. I had to kill and butcher seven of them just to get to level two beginner. Takes all day. Normally if I do something like fish, I get a level two after the first success. First catch and so on.
I tried to use my beginner’s matchlock but I kept getting this (condition not met) I could not see much of anything due to the trees and steep hills which I could not line up my shots on the raccoons. I got down from the cliffs and found that my matchlock now works. But well away from the raccoons which were on top.

What is going on with hunting?
I sent a report in a few days ago and I haven’t heard back from them yet. I have also reached out for help on STEAM, Redit and Discord.

I just want to use a decent Matchlock.

Hunting is GREAT now, we have many more animals/areas to hunt in, drops, crafting etc.

As for your aiming, move your aimpoint with arrow keys up or down, left or right, that's how you get the angles you need. You need to keep that in mind, hunting isn't on a level field at all times, most of all the islands. Get more active with zoom in and out, scroll your mousewheel for your camera visual , to prevent the problems of branches etc.

guide for hunting is:
https://grumpygreen.cricket/bdo-hunting-guide-eminent/

Start with doing the hunting quests-ALL of them. You'll slam experience up fast enough, because all the quests take you right to the places and animals, and give you hunting experience.

Yes, you need a gun and butcher knife -you get experience from butchering your kills, and you can sell the butchered meat drop on central market, or cook with it, etc.

Tap O key, (make sure Turn on all Quests is checked) to see hunting quests. OR
Summon the Black Spirit-(use the hotkey, the period on your keyboard), go to Quests

I just posted a screenshot earlier on forums of my crafted house decorations in Valcencia.

Thanks @adoveea, This like was very helpful. I did try Goodling it but I did not find this.

I have found some areas that do have hunting on the mainland. Sadly only (some) animals have hunting exp and only if you harvest meat from them. This is a pain but will find quest.
The one at the dock is still not there. (Dam gulls)
Thanks.

Hunting mastery skill level determines your drops-meat/hides/trophy heads/i've even gotten some hard sharp crystals. The little green shields are the experience hunting points.

Harvesting- that meat keeps all the cooks very happy on central market, crafters want the hide, feathers, beaks, etc. and blood for the alchemists.

Animals that can be hunted are labeled Wild in their title over their head.

Damn Gulls Quest is in Velia, from Crio, the fish vender at the dock, near the storage manager.

You MUST lease a practice matchlock to do the quest. It doesn't do a thing unless you do. Laiano Pietro the guild manager in Velia or Daphne DelLucci who runs the farm south of Velia-she also has the quest for shooting beehives out of the trees as well.

You need contribution points to *lease* a practice matchlock. When you're done, give it back to who you leased it from and you get your contribution point back.
P.S hunting always has been sucked xD

Solo hunting fugitive khalk doesn't suck, takes some skill -riding a horse , shooting the gun at something flying in the air that looks like a dragon with heavy duty armor skin, swapping out your gun for another, while dodging trees, trying to evade the land monsters who just object to you bumping into them or just near them at the same time, not to mention falling off a cliff ...

just isn't easy and takes alot of effort and quite a few hours.

I'm trying to train up a horse that has the caution skill which at least gives a short pause chance to recover before we fall off a cliff.... (its all rng baby, rng-training the horse and hoping it gets that skill)

That is the reason most players go for a party gang to take that hunting beast out, hours to hunt that beast.
And those cliffs. It was a fast deadly end to that first khalk hunting experience.

Hunting might not be the game enjoyment for many. Me? I like it because it meshes with many of the game activities,.

Sucks to support my crafting of power ap potions for combat (blood for potions), combat saddles/gear for horses (hide), meals for pets/health/combat (meat), crafted trade/furniture items and decor for my house (feathers/hide/beak etc.) for my crafting workshops/workers. From that, i get worker seals to get even better horse gear/gems etc. etc. for combat and sell all the excess hunting drops/crafts/armor/weapons at the market for silver game coin?

Muahahhaa. Sucks to be a hunter in the game. Sure. Muahahha.

Falling off a cliff...okay, yeah that sucked.

But I got the story of my hunt that still makes many chuckle.

farming fishing and training arent worth doing

gathering is the only active life skill worth doing

cooking/alchemy/gathering are the top 3 life skills right now

most ppl just bot gathering cuz they dont wanna spend 10 hours on gathering while
everything can go automatic xD you wont even get banned doing so thats the funny part
