Cannon on the Bartali sailboat won't fire

I'm new to this game. I got this ship and was trying out the cannon. I keep getting the prompt.

Why won't they fire?
Do I need to put a sailor on the gun, can I?

u need to be at least lvl 56 to use cannons

i know it confuesd me too they should really put it in the description

also the bartali sail boat u have to man the cannon it does not have sideboard cannons that u can fire and drive u can only do that on a improved sailboat or improved frigate and up

game needs a detailed in game guide for sea content i had to learn all this by googleing it
