Ships
Hello, I returned to BDO after 2 years without playing. I didnt have any ships at that moment, just a small boat. I have seem so many videos of the new ships. However there is something that I dont get. Few years back the only way to get the "best" ship was doing the Daily quest during 20 days plus farming some stuff. Now I did a quest where they gave me a ship, and that ship seems to be able to get an upgrade in to two different ships with some stuff and at upgrading blue print.

so, do I still have to do the 20 days quest to get the first ship? or can I just jump in too the upgrade one?

How is the way to get a nice ships?.

Thanks!

To be honest I'd just suggest buying an Epheria Sailboat from the mp. It's a couple hundred mil, which isn't all that much really and it will be absolutely fine to use as your daily driver. There is still a quest in Port Epheria for the frigate for 25 days to get the blueprints if that's the one you're referring to? Worth doing, if for nothing else than to sell it on the mp as it does fetch a nice price and I believe is a repeatable! I hope that helps some!

There are plenty of 'Epheria Sailboats' (best boat for non-fighting related activities) on the MP currently. I guess it depends on how long it takes you to get 500 million silver but it will propably take you longer to get 800 'Standardized Timber Square' which is the bottleneck if you want to upgrade your 'Bartali Sailboat' to the 'Epheria Sailboats'.

T1: Bartali Sailboat. Can be upgraded to:

T2: Epheria Sailboat (aka Trade T2) 5k LT cargo
T2: Epheria Frigate (aka Combat T2) 4k LT cargo

Epheria Sailboat can be upgraded to:
-T3 Improved Epheria Sailboat (you now have 2 cannons each side and can fire from the helm) 5k LT
-T4 Caravel (2 cannons each side and can fire from the helm) 10k base LT, 11.5 with upgraded equip, effectively ~ 11k LT after sailors.
You can also upgrade the Improved Sailboat to Caravel for the same costs.

Epheria Frigate can be upgraded to:
-T3 Improved Epheria Frigate (4 cannons each side, can fire from the helm) 4k LT
-T4 Galleas (4 cannons each side and can fire from the ehlm) 8k, 9.5k, 9k effective LT
Again you can upgrade the Improved to Galleas as well.

Caravel can then be upgraded to Carrack versions Advanced and Ballanced (T5 Trade), Galleas to Valor and Volante (T5 Combat)

As someone who got Galleas and Caravel at my fingertips:
The go by "strategy" i give to my guildies currently is:
Get the epheria sailboat (Aka T2 trade) first. ~500 Million and you are good to go (boat, equip and sailor)

With that start bartering and finance your frigate. Dont build it in epheria, dont grind through this meaningless carry 2 boxes quest. Grab a bartali sailboat and upgrade that one.
Then upgrate frigate immediately to galleas. That should take less than 2 weeks overall.
But! That will be the ship you will use the most for months to come.

Depending on how active you are you may want to upgrade your epheria sailboat (T2 tradeship) to Improved epheria sailboat (Trade T3) before going for galleas. That will give you 2 cannons each side which can now be used from the helm which helps doing more dailies while you farm the ressources for the galleas.
Most dailies are combat related and you will need them for further advancement of your sailor mastery and materials. Do yourself a favor and do NOT try to fight with any of the T2's...In doubt ask a guildmate with T3+ if you can tag along for dailies. Or ask in the sailing discord, the seafaring community is more helpful than the average BDO.

To Upgrade Caravel (T4 trade ship) or Galleas (T4 combat) to carrack you need round about the same materials. However farming those requires 90 days of dailies with lots of combat activity.
Even in a galleas (double the firepower of a caravel) these can take a few hours. Each day. For three months.

Additionally and strangely enough the Galleas is even better at trading. 9k or 11k doesnt make as much of a difference as the lower tiers did. You will be able to do the same trades and additionally are less effected by wind and current with higher speed and double the firepower!
A bit counter intuitive, however:
There are different trades to make. Those require different amount of cargo.
With 4800 LT being an important "cap" for lower tier bartering, the Sailboat (5k LT) beats the frigate (4k LT) at it. Add sailors and equip to the equation and a frigate cant even do the 4k trades.
Next tiers are 8k,12k. The galleas scores at 9k, caravel at 11k. Which means they do the same trades, or go overweight at the same. The caravel only beats the galleas in a tiny few edge cases, like doing 2x the 4800 trade.

For the carrack...well, even if you want to go for Advance or Ballance (the trading Carracks), while you farm those materials with a galleas you can easily grab the materials to build your caravel additionally as well just along the way. These are different materials so this wont interfere with farming for the carrack the least.

Of course you can shorten those 90 days with trades as well, neither do you need to do all dailies. By using Crow Coins which you get from bartering. However some of those quests easily give items worth thousands of crow coins. Worth millions. Crow Coins can however also be transfered into silver. By that....

Overall the value of just the T4 to T5 upgrade is ~ 130....billion.

Do the oquillas eye quest line that you get from Bartali https://bdocodex.com/us/quest/3706/12/ to get skilled 1 sailing (needed to use the breezy sail boost skill).

Do the 7 day quest chain at crows nest from Ravinia to get half the materials you need to upgrade your ship to the next version. Use this image to track the rest of the materials needed https://i.imgur.com/XN9j3Cx.png

The best ships are the Carracks, there are 4 of them, 2 of them come from the caravel (the upgraded sailboat) and 2 come from the galleass (the upgraded frigate). The best one for bartering is the Advance version from the caravel line. The best combat one is the Valor from the galleass line. They take a long time to get, and you will need to barter 5000 times, and complete over a months worth of daily quests from oquillas eye.

You start to get Carrack material available at 5110 barter count. You might get into near 8K to eventually get you Carrack while progressing.

What people don't tell you is that blue part on the carravel need to be at +10 to even be able to upgrade to a carrack. With all the resource needed to build it, if not used on the boat, you can be already above soft cap on the character gear.

I recommend to be at least at soft cap gear(TET weapon/armor, TRI accessories), before beginning to barter. At that point the player should have enough resource(worker nodes) to start to barter properly.

Indeed. And to build that blue gear you need the green gear at +10 (which is relatively cheap, about 1k CrowCoins and...like...50 mio silver?).
And then a LOT of resources. Its a huge chunk of the T4 to T5 upgrade. More than half iirc.
My "suggestion" however keeps them in mind, the 130 billion as well as going by +10 green gear stats (Otherwise the caravel would score a wooping 15k LT, with +10 blue).
Once you get to +10 blue gear you should already have most other mats as well, hence the +10 green is what im counting on for most of this grind. The +10 green however is a matter of just about one hour.

You dont need a single worker node. Neither any crafting, in general crafting land goods yourself is not worth the time investment compared to even T2 Sailboat bartering. And once you hit T4 even high spot grinding doesnt even come close to income per hour.
You cant buy those mats for silver though, only sell CC for silver.
So you will end up with a lot of surplus silver, e.g. from level 5 goods. Which willl give you so much silver just along the way while grinding the resources you can easily upgrade your character gear as well and should hit full tet with maybe pen weapon and dream horse way before carrack.
All you need is maybe being able to grind on Kuit Island for ravinias questline. So ~lvl 56 and oasis gear.
Being able to expand some storage on the way however helps. So..."some" CP.
