[Help] I might be doing Fishing wrongly
So i`ve decidede that I wanted to do some "serious" fishing in this game since it`s an activity that allows me to AFK for like 2 hours before I have to come back and switch rods, but I also noticed that I can only consistently make up to 1.2mil every trip and that`s if I can find some relique pieces to sell together with the fish. So i`d say that the fish alone only get me up to 700k-800k.

I`ll describe here what I`ve done so far so you guys (if anyone) can see if i`m doing something wrong.

I`ve connected all the nodes coming from Velia City to Lema Island and acquired a fishing boat which i almost always sail to Baremi Island and Weira Island. That`s the place I seem to be able to catch the most yellow and blue fish.

I also usually use a thick rod so I can get a +1 level boost on fishing and a fishing outfit for the same reason, then I consume a Baleno meal for an adition of 2 more levels of fishing, making a total of 4 out of 5 possible levels active

My fishing trips usually last up to 2 hours or more depending on what i`m doing in the meanwhile.

Am i doing something wrong? I see a lot of people selling things for prices that go as high as 300mil and i can`t imagine myself ever making that much by fishing, so is it an outdated way of making profits?

Thanks :D

No, you are doing fine for a beginner.

But you want to consider investing in a Balenos rod and enhance it as far as you are able (with the eventual goal of making it a +10). This will reduce your afk-fishing time by up to 25% (at +10). This is the time between the bite and the reel in.

If you are willing to spend some pearls, branding the rod is a good deal if you are running out of rod before you run out of inventory.

Once your level is high enough, start using floats, and once you can use the maple float, use that and try to enhance it.

The next thing, once you start running out of inventory, get more inventory slots. You can get those via questing (the quest log will show you the quests that will give you inventory), buy them with loyalty or with pearls.

All serious fishers have inventory maxed out or close to it.

Are you selling your fish to the Imperial Trader?

Are you looking for the seagull spots to catch gold fish?

When I was leveling my alts' fishing, they would fetch between 1.2-2.5 million per trip (at about 70 inventory slots) with the Balenos rod at +10. They couldn't use the float because their fishing level was too low.

If you have any questions, ask away.

I`ve been selling my fish to the normal trader from Velia up until now. I didn`t know you could actually sell anything to the imperial trader since every time I talked to that specific NPC it didn`t really give me any trading window, just 2 choices of conversation like other ordinary NPCs.

I also didn`t know that seagulls would show thw spot where your chances to get a gold fish was higher. I usually get them by chance (I`ve got it 3 times so far)

I already have a balenos rod, but since it doesn`t give me a +1 level on fishing I usually equip it when i have to be AFK for a few hours since it has more durability than the thick one. How do I upgrade it though? with the normal weapon stone?

Thanks for the tips :D!

The seagull spots will spawn at random times and will stay for about half an hour. They will give gold fish exclusively (and only 1 type of fish).

This map will help you with the locations: http://www.somethinglovely.net/bdo/

Being able to see the spots is dependent on your level and the level of the spot. You start seeing some when you hit Apprentice 1. If you are with someone who is a higher fishing level and they can see a spot that you can't, you can fish at it as long as you are within 10 levels of that spot (it's a bit weird to explain).

The Imperial Fish trader in Velia is standing right next to the Wharf manager. Always try to sell to him first before going to the regular trader.

If you fish out of Epheria, the Imperial Fish Trader there is also standing right next to the Wharf Manager. If you have them connected, you can go all the way to another Imperial Fish Trader and sell fish there.

And yes, you upgrade the Balenos rod with Weapon Stones. And use another Balenos rod to repair it. I think once you hit +6, it has a chance to delevel on failure. I forced mine after that, so I have no experience with that.

Just a small bit of info, don't have to rush your pole to +10 right away. I tried that and ran out of money at +7. Lol, but that's ok I am making up for it fast. At +7 I can fish all night and fill my inventory with my pole still at over 50% (it's also branded) I plan to keep adding to my inventory as I earn points. I dont want to spend too much on pearls as I already bought a costume for my warrior and horse agaisnt my better judgment because they just looked too cool :D

This is true. I branded mine at +6 and after that I just improved it as I had stones and extra rods so I could get the max fishing reduction. You will also get a Penguin pet from the attendance reward this month, and that gives you an afk-fishing time reduction as well.

how much would it cost me to brand my rod? I`m not home right now, so I can`t check it out myself :x

A branding stone is 400 pearls (or 2000 pearls for a pack of 6).

Before you brand it though, make sure you need it. If your rod is not running out of durability in the time you are afk, then you are good to go for now. Branding becomes important when you have a lot of inventory and are staying afk overnight, for example.

so branding is not something that stays on your rod forever? you have to keep applying it?

It stays on your rod forever.

Are you asking because of the pack? You can brand other things, like weapons and horse gear and it will lose durability more slowly. So people who grind a lot, for example, will brand their gear. That's why the pack is there.
